TurboSimmie January 22, 2023 Share January 22, 2023 I'm still awake for some reason. 😄 Phil kinda wants to see the new Avatar movie. I'm still salty that he didn't take me to see the new Top Gun when it was in theaters. 😄 Tulpa Wife & Mother! 💚 💍 11.28.21 👶 4.7.23 👗 Simmie's AI Dress-Up! 📷 Chloe and Simmie's Photographic Adventures! Guest January 22, 2023 Share January 22, 2023 The visuals were amazing as always. Although the last part felt kinda tedious (to me) but that could be because it is a really long movie and it was very late
Luminesce January 22, 2023 Share January 22, 2023 (edited) There's a lot of Chinese people angrily explaining why the term "Lunar New Year" is wrong and to say "Chinese New Year" instead, in response to anti-Chinese sentiment mostly from the US, though all in all the people getting offended and the people doing the offending are both minorities and there's nothing actually wrong Bigger explanation: (copy-pasted from Discord) Spoiler Basically: - The Chinese New Year is called "Chinese New Year", "Spring Festival", and "Lunar New Year" in China - With anti-China sentiment being popular these days, some people are making a point of specifically using the term Lunar New Year instead, though as an established term (even in China) many people just say it because that's one thing it's called - Chinese people, being even more nationalistic than Americans, are getting upset at people using the term Lunar New Year at all saying it's China-erasure and arguing that it's a lunisolar calendar, so "Lunar New Year" is wrong They're correct that it's wrong, but it's always been wrong, and the term "Lunar New Year" has always been used in China anyways lol They're also correct that some people are using the term to avoid mentioning China though - apparently there's been a lot of drama around Korean New Year, dunno if this is the only thing but I hear a museum in the UK called the chinese new year korean new year or something lol Anyways, in case anyone wondered why so many Chinese people are getting mad at the term lunar new year, that's what's up^ But if you want a TL;DR on the best thing to do, call it "Chinese New Year" (since the Chinese created the holiday and tons of its traditions), or "Spring Festival" if you're cool Lunar New Year isn't wrong and they've always said it too, but it's a controversial option now between anti-China and pro-China people, so imo might as well opt to use one of the other two Exception if you're actually celebrating it in a country like the Koreas where they've adopted the actual celebration themselves - you already know what you call it in that case though, so you can say whatever to refer to your own celebration of course, was just talking about random people referring to the Chinese celebration Edited January 22, 2023 by Luminesce Hi!
