Neat. Hope you have fun.

I found a new way to force. Instead of narrating to your tulpa, just watch something while focusing on your tulpa and make the intention that they are hearing what you are listening to ,effectively allowing the media to narrate for you

Not quoting because idc

Yes, declaw the front claws of inside-only cats. My cat still runs her paws down the side of our couches and stuff occasionally and seems perfectly happy with it, but she doesn't destroy things in the process. I heard that keeping their back claws helps them balance though so it's nicer to not ever declaw those, and they don't really scratch anything up with back claws except you if they jump off of you. However, an "inside cat" that you let outside is just an outside cat. NEVER declaw cats that go outside even 5% of the time, it's incredibly important for their wellbeing to have claws for both climbing and defending themselves (and like, catching mice)

However, outside cats have a ton of different reasons why they'll just never live as long as a purely indoors cat (that's given enough space to exercise freely).

At being afraid to get a pet because they'll die someday - cats and dogs generally supply so much comfort and happiness over their lifespans that it's worth it by the time they die (at least when they live 14+ years as they should, but outside cats have a higher chance of not living out their natural lifespan), buuuut whether their eventual death is worth it is up to you. Serious and logical and unemotional and all that as I am, I still don't want to ever get a pet rabbit because as much love and comfort as they'd add to my life, I'm just not okay with them dying some day. I absolutely adore other people's pet rabbits, though

Cats are fine on their own in a big-enough house throughout the day (as are small indoor dogs), but if mine have been any indication, they do still crave interaction sporadically, so leaving them alone for more than 8 hours every day would be pretty mean. The other 16 would do though, just be ready for them to demand that attention in the middle of the night or morning, lol. With that in mind - if you're still going to be sleeping for >10 hours a day and working, I don't think that's enough time to take care of any of the animals we've discussed alone. Back to hamster/lizard territory again (parakeet is also out).

You don't need multiple cats, they usually hardly like to interact with each other and would strongly prefer periodic human attention. Multiple dogs would keep each other company but then you're absolutely doubling the amount of time and effort it takes to take care of them, and they absolutely won't take care of themselves. And rabbits.. Either you have to give them tons of attention so that you're like their partner, or if you're going to be unavailable most of the day they need another rabbit to keep them company. But rabbits often literally get depressed and die when their mates die, so have you considered never owning a rabbit? I have
(If you want to perpetuate an endless cycle, having a third rabbit can help another rabbit get through a second's death - but, well, you know.)

And all the aforementioned pets require a pet-sitter if you're ever away from home for more than one day, or even in that one day for indoor dogs to be let out. For all letting-out aside, you have to fill their food bowls and eventually clean wherever they go to the bathroom

Our family is personally locked to always having someone at home (me, by volunteer) and never all going on a vacation/etc. because of our dog and lack of anyone to watch her. And unfortunately we never trained her to trust random people (stupid parents got a dog the family was absolutely not ready for, and I didn't end up taking much responsibility for her until like 5 years later), so a random pet-sitter we paid isn't an option either.

Anyways, I actually do think I could have a pet rabbit once I retired. All the time in the world to give to them, and the kind of really high cost of maintenance also not being a problem. But any time before then is basically out of the question for me, and if it's out of the question for me, there's doubtless countless other people who would choose not to have a pet as well

I need an emotional support animal though and I like fluffy cats you can cuddle like my friend had one. He worked 8 hours a day and it seemed fine with that. I guess while I was living with him though there was always a human around because I was there.

It sucks you all think I wouldn't be good for an animal. And I'm not much into animals that you just keep in a cage all day like a lizard. Maybe I have to wait until I make full income from home drawing to get a pet. That seems far away though unless miracles happen which I hope miracles happen.

I may work part time in the future though if I can still have hud adjust their rent for it. Then they'll only be away from me for 4 hours, or 8 hours 2 days out of the week and 4 hours one day out of the week.

Also don't cats like sleep 15 hours a day? They could even sleep when there is no one around

Also I am kind of feeling an oppressive loneliness living here so far even though I have Rena around. I need to return to forcing like I once did. I used to be unable to feel alone because of her, idk what happened. This loneliness makes me almost actually consider a hamster, because at least then I know another living creature is in the house with me. Also can you hold and cuddle a hamster? Probably not safe to go to sleep with one incase you roll over and crush it though. What's their life span? I used to have a couple hamsters as a child but they died seemingly relatively quickly idk

First of all, most of the fun of cage animals is taking them out to play with them (in a safe environment for them & where they won't get lost crawling through stuff)

Cats sleep a ton, but they're nothing like sloths, they're very polyphasic. They go between casual activity, napping, excitable running around the house and parkouring, napping, casual activity, napping every day. So they're not just going to sleep all 8 hours while you're gone or something. Though I said 8 hours is like the border of being perfectly okay, but that in your case if you sleep 10+ hours a day that's the same as working 10+ hours a day with a normal sleep schedule as well, etc.

I don't think I said you wouldn't be good for an animal? Just that your situation isn't 100% optimal for some kinds of animals. A big thing is that you're living alone. Our cat (and thanks to me, our dog too) is always fine no matter what anyone does because there's always someone around the house at some point various times of the day. Living alone though no one will fill in any gaps.

The space you have is acceptable for a cat (not optimal, but they'll probably be okay if you're desperate), though I would recommend getting a big rug for the living room's wood floor, both for the cat's traction and because I feel like solid floors for living rooms are not cozy. No letting the cat outside (without living in some kind of farm/nature wonderland), there's just too many problems introduced by doing that that you won't want to deal with. And any kind of dog deserves to be let out often and gone on walks with plus requires training, so that's just kind of hard. Rabbits only really need a pen area + being let out to run around the house sometimes (and tons of attention), but unfortunately they're pretty high maintenance and it's quite a responsibility to care for one optimally, so I still don't really recommend one for you. Cats are the lowest maintenance possible for such a big animal, they just need attention here and there throughout the day (probably more if your house is small), and preferably to be combed to keep them from throwing up so much. Particularly fluffy cats need to be combed constantly to prevent them from throwing up constantly and yet they'll STILL throw up sometimes AND you'll find their hair floating around and getting in your kitchenware/food and stuff regardless. And then typical litterbox cleaning every so often + food and water refilling once every 1-3 days (please don't let ANY pets you get be forced to drink out of disgusting water bowls that only get filled but never rinsed out or cleaned)

Oh yeah, a cat's gonna stink up your house from time to time since your home is so small, as an added bonus lol. They don't always perfectly bury their litter, though they'll get more messy the dirtier you let their litterbox get.

Anyways? I still think the money investment of a cat or dog (or especially rabbit) is a bit much for you right now, and I highly recommend any of many cage/terrarium animals instead (for the time being).

Actually hey, good example of what I said about Google doing its best to take the guesswork out of searches in recent years - I searched "best cage animals" and the top two results were articles for animals that are good for small apartments, nice

Pretty good article for exploring some options: https://www.lovetoknowpets.com/life-with-pets/best-pets-apartments-small-spaces

I think your very best two options (that you may or may not like hearing lol, I dunno) are a rat(s), or an aquarium. Rats are just a tiny bit less cute and small compared to mice in exchange for being better behaved and manageable pets, and there's not really tricks to caring for them to my knowledge compared to lizards (need UV lamps some of the time) or chinchillas (which apparently should take "dust baths" a couple times a week) or so on. Though both mice and rats will chew the heck out of anything if you leave them to their own devices in an unprotected environment, so I guess that's a trick. Rabbits will do that if you let them free roam too, but a rabbit is less likely to chew straight through walls and furniture...

But my actual #1 recommendation is an aquarium. It's the perfect level of maintenance for you (assuming your memory isn't so bad you forget to feed them daily lol?), being fine to leave alone at any given time and just needing some direct management at any time of your choosing every so often. You can't cuddle a fish (more than once per fish at least), but aquariums are even more hypnotizing than fire, and that article even mentions they have proven therapeutic benefits, which I 100% vouch for. They really liven up a space (could just sit it right in your living room against a wall), they're enthralling to watch, and they're A-OK to be left alone for your specific time constraints as long as you get back to them at some point each day and clean their tank every however-long (you'd need to look up how/when to do this for which species/tank sizes and fish count, but I know it's on average only once every couple weeks or so)

I personally wanted to recommend a ferret because I think they're probably the coolest/most fun cage-type pets (that you take out to play with/let exercise each day ofc), though that article said they may not do so well being left alone for 8+ hours a day, or in your case the 10+ while you're sleeping. Anyways, I'll throw out there one last time that even a cat is going to take up probably more of your time than you expect if caring for it alone and it'll really screw with your already limited free time, which is why I recommend an aquarium (of any aquarium-OK fish of your choosing, snails/crabs/etc. optional, just make sure the species are known to get along) since it fits all of your needs, environmental and time restrictions

Except for being good for cuddling, but tulpas are pretty good for that...

Edit: Oh and it's not even a question that you HAVE to spay/neuter any cat, dog, rabbit, or other similar animals you ever have as a pet. Unless you're a breeder there's no acceptable reason not to. That whatever thing about neutering animals making them emotionless or something is a total myth, my cat is the most consistently happy cat I've ever seen, and our dog is still more excitable and wanting to play than our low-energy family can even accommodate

Good night

I forgot how awesome aquariums were until I read that article, but being able to watch aquatic life just vibing around (bonus points for pretty colors) any time is such a privilege tbh

Last time I saw an aquarium tank was at my dentist's, and even as a well-enough adjusted adult I really wanted to just stay and watch all their fish (and crab) doing their thing for a while lol

Small aquariums with small fish are okay, but the majesty of those slightly larger fish tanks just being a small cutout of life is really crazy

(Talking about medium-sized household fish tanks to be clear, not actual zoo aquariums)
