A serious aquarium is tremendous work and requires lots of experience and knowledge in biology, chemistry and tech stuff. You have to maintain an entire miniature ecosystem. My father had several bathtub-size aquariums for decades, not with the African like in your video but mostly South American Cichlids like Anglefish. It was a constant battle against algae, pests, diseases and malfunctions. You could pet the fish though and they would come and nibble on your hand. The cats loved the aquariums too but I can't really recommend it against lonelyness. Also they're neither low maintainence nor cheap and god forbid if something goes wrong and you have a major leak in an ordinary apartment. They're also extremely heavy and can wreck an entire house if positioned in the wrong area. My father had most of them in the cellar, just one in the living room. He quit eventually and gave them away because he's too old now.

A hedgehog's not only nocturnal but also quite antisocial and not exactly fond of being handled or petted. It's not exactly gonna greet you when you come home either. Rats are way more sociable. I think I once told you I had the Persian gerbils a long time ago, they were extremely cool but needed a huge cage, made tremendous noise at night and shredded everything they found while running free.

As a cat person to me cats are still the ultimate pet but as tupper said they suffer without proper care and are a huge commitment. So in the end if you are lonely the only reasonable pet is the common human who can take care of himself while you're at work.

The idea with recommending an aquarium was TB's willingness to spend time on a pet... but only for very specific points of time, so fish that don't care when you get around to them as long as you do at some point

Honestly, if TB's cat is anything like mine it will meow incessantly if left alone because you're sleeping for 11 hours, and it may not appreciate being alone for however many hours your work is either.

You have to find an animal that's okay with your time constraints, and preferably that doesn't have weird specific needs to keep it healthy (I don't know that I'd trust you to manage the on-and-off hours for UV lights for a lizard for example, and if you accidentally leave it on or off a whole day you screw with their sleep schedule and even health)

You've given me a new fear of TB somehow dumping a tank of water on the apartment floor though

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.

It's -23'F (-30.5'C) and my house is pretty cold

I want to try to get my sleep to be no more than 8 to 9 hours

Maybe I can have a polyphasic sleep schedule where I sleep from like 12 to 6 then have a couple hours long nap in the middle of the day. I could play with the hedgehog from 11 to 12 when I get home from work and then another hour or so after I get up the first time at 6, assuming that is still night to them. They certainly don't need me to be there 100% of the time right? They would look forward to getting out of their cage and stuff when I come around

it was too much to expect that my depression would go away just because I got to move out on my own. Things are a lot better but still I get down in the dumps

Sorry to hear that TB

It sounds like it's just your body acting up, which probably means you're still moving in the right direction

drawing and visualizing aren't super related skills

Maybe it's just the way I think of things, then

To me, drawing just seems like the perfect medium for deciding things because I can go off of a tangible representation of an idea instead of relying on my intuition

I just want to get a physical representation of these guys down so I can keep it consistent

Like having a reference sheet for animating and stuff

D-prime is shrinking as we speak.
