Good night

Gotta start thinking in terms of "We should do things that specifically sound a little hard/undesirable but only because they involve learning/thinking a bit"

Many small but numerous steps of great variety, should hopefully get our brain to stop resisting the big things we're trying to learn as well

Hi guys, plain text is just me now! We've each got our own accounts: me, Tewi, Flandre, and Lucilyn. We're Luminesce's tulpas.

Here's our "Ask Thread", and here's our Progress Report (You should be able to see all of our accounts on the second page if you want)

I'm certainly understimating how hard it is for you guys but yeah, forcing yourself to do things like that. I'm wondering, what if you guys just had no option but to do things, as in: you're out of your parents' house with no choice but to do stuff in normal circumstances (still living at your parents') you'd never do? no monetary aid of any kind of course

I used to use krita but now I mainly use sai 2 again. I might try csp though. I forget what csp stands for but I think that's the acronym.

Didn't see this. It stands for Clip Studio Paint, it's pretty cheap (I have the monthly plan for the PRO version) and a good program imo. With lots of available brushes made by other users that you can download, sometimes for free, sometimes for CP (Clippy Points) which is a digital currency you can use in the official website. It also has comic templates and 3D models you can use as reference (forgot to say this when we talked about references)

Well we've worked (for two weeks away from home, twice, a year apart) before, it seems like it just causes us increasing stress over time if we can't eventually stop. Namely in school and college, we always tried our best for 2-3 weeks but then started not being able to do things until we gave up entirely, no matter what we told ourselves about the consequences (ie like $15k in debt & no degree)

Obviously if you make up a scenario like "but what if you literally were dropped in the middle of a jungle" just about everyone no matter their disorders will suddenly perform a lot better than they were lol

Hard to voluntarily sign up for that kind of thing, though

That was one of the first scenarios I thought of: basically survival. But then it switched to more realistic scenarios, like just.. yeah, living out of your parents' house (by no having a choice, obviously). You have mentioned you guys would like (correct me if I'm wrong) to move to another country, that sounds like getting out of your comfort zone for real. Maybe that could be good in the future, but say, what if your game career never takes off? now I might come off as ignorant because I don't really know how the game industry/market works but, you always tell TB that making an income out of art will never take off really and that they should find a job. I know I'm comparing two very different things and I'm probably getting things wrong, but what would happen in that same scenario?

I'd like to eventually stop my job too. Still not sure what to do about it though

And oh, you use Clip Studio Paint as your main program, Miri?

kyleri on twitter (I think that's their name, I forget and am too lazy to check, they are a popular artist) gave me a link to get it for free

bedtime though goodnight. We can continue in the morning

Yeah, I used SAI 1 before but I very much prefer CSP (never learned anything new in SAI so I didn't use it to its full potential probably). I don't like to get programs for free if they're paid software because, well overthinking lol but if you are fine with it.. it isn't expensive at all though

Also holy, 1M followers..

Good night

I think we are in a unique position as far as game development goes so I shouldn't speak in general terms, lol

Suffice to say, it's not about if we "take off", just if we can actually do the work to actually make what we have in mind

That's not the case for most people trying to do this, as they also need to worry about their games "taking off", but...

Spoiler

people just really suck at making good games, we try to give them the benefit of the doubt by assuming good ideas must be lost along the way when working in big teams, but there are just so many bad design decisions out there

For small teams or single devs it really is mostly just about being able to do the work though. It's very hard to pull so many different skills together.

Anyways, "failure" for us optimally looks like "We just can't do {other skill(s) required for completing games on our own} so we'll use our knowledge and experience now to get hired to a team/company and just do what we're good at instead", while the bottom line backup plan is doing some manual labor job and just getting real buff lol, we have the body type for that sort of thing but just aren't interested if we can help it

That kind of failure means we've completely failed to fix our motivation-effort issues though and implies we have to give up on pretty much any of our dreams, it's a rather intense "what if"

And we don't plan to move to another country until we're financially independent and stable, obviously
