i never liked the idea of a debate club. you are given a stance and you have to argue for it, and if you aren't convincing enough, you lose. such an ersian style of debate is merely an intellectual exercise to sharpen your rhetorical skills, but it cannot lead you to the truth. the very concept denied the idea of truth, or at least that it can be found through debate, and it encourages bad habits by disallowing interlocutors from reconsidering their position in the face of new evidence

a debate where the only point is to convince an audience that your side is right --rather than to attempt to work with your interlocutor to find the truth, even if that truth differs from your initial stance-- is useful for politics, but worthless for personal growth

I have a tulpa named Miela who I love very much.

Why is searching for truth worthless for personal growth?

So you’re suggesting that debating exercises the same mental gymnastics that’s used in coping mechanisms? That’s one way of looking at it

It’s essentially an opinion crash course, but you’re right about it being easy to get lost in the sauce. I guess we’re all just naturally built to take it seriously

We're doing well! 😁 We went on a very hot walk today. 🌞 The power went out at our house for over an hour but it's back now.

Are these related? You walked so hard you shut off the power.
