TB September 21, 2024 Share September 21, 2024 (edited) Oh oof sorry lol, well good luck! idk what countries your game has I would have suggested one be japan and one be this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fengtian_clique Though I don't know if that would be an option in your game because I guess it is technically just a part of china during a time china was broken apart into different cliques ruled by various warlords which in HOI they are treated as separate countries at that point and there isn't actually a real china yet It's so you can continue my Hearts of Iron IV experience where I got to play as the zhang zuolin of the fengtian government and try to deal with my abusive relationship with Japan lol. I was having fun with that run and wanted to become powerful and eventually take over Japan to show them they can't control me, but what ended up happening was zhang got assassinated so Japan installed one of the princes to become emperor of the land controlled by the fengtian government and declared their country to be called The Celestial Empire of Chuugoku which is the most epic name for a country ever, thanks japan, though I abandoned the run. The likely next result was the Japanese controlled Celestial Empire was about to "reunite china" with Japanese Characteristics lolol Edited September 21, 2024 by TB Creation for creation's sake. we draw things Resident Dojikko

I heard in a video certain adhd meds are neurotoxic, and I read recently that Adderrall is known to be potentially damaging to dopamine system in doses of 40mg and above, which ik I take 20mg but it still feels scary to be at half a dose that might be considered dangerous and idk if I trust that even 20 would be safe long term especially since I feel psychiatry underestimates the damaging effects of their medications often. We live in an era where lobotomies basically still exist, just chemical lobotomies now, and if society progresses, I feel a large number of currently accepted drugs will be made illegal lol I hope it is true then that they actually heal adhd related problems thus making it more possible to recover from it and stop the medication at some point 22 minutes ago, Luminesce said: I tried to make it clear with the bold examples that they have separate categories of (things) you learn - for example, when I do a review right now, I can see 一 (kanji, reading ichi, meaning one), 一 (radical, "ground"), 一 (vocab, reading ichi, meaning one), and 一つ (vocab, reading hitotsu, meaning one thing) all as individual (rapid) questions (it asks about a (non-radical's) meaning and reading separately) I've learned 18 kanji (Kanji), 26 radicals (Radicals), and two vocab (Vocabulary) officially-on-wanikani, though most of the radicals are also kanji, and all of the kanji are vocab so I'll already know like 16 more the moment I move on to next lessons, but things like 一つ are taught now as well so it's not pure dupes Ik, I wasn't saying you learned nothing except 2 words, but just that 2 words when they are so important for reading, and iknow.jp depending on how much time you want to give it you can probably learn 100 words in a weeks time give or take, assuming you give an hour a day perhaps, and they will be frequent words so you quickly start seeing them basically anytime you look at japanese anywhere 22 minutes ago, Luminesce said: WaniKani will politely shake the input box and tell me the site is looking for the onyomi when I write "chikara" as the reading for kanji 力 for example (instead of either riki or ryoku - accepts either) Chikara is a kun'yomi, unless that's what you meant. Though iknow.jp let's you do that too. If for any reason you get something wrong, you can cheat and mark it correct. Sometimes if I'm being unfathomably lazy and I know the correct answer to something, I'll just force a wrong answer then mark it correct instead of putting in the correct answer lol, except when I actually was somehow still wrong anyway and am made to be a fool I'll try out the first free lesson of wanikani out of curiosity Edited September 21, 2024 by TB Creation for creation's sake. we draw things Resident Dojikko
Luminesce September 21, 2024 Share September 21, 2024 (edited) Well you'd probably want to go through like five lessons to understand how it works lol, considering you already know everything (except maybe the radicals) I've not spent that long on WaniKani so don't judge whatever idea you have of that as how efficient it is. And like I said, I just didn't-touch-it for like 9 straight months or something 15 minutes ago, TB said: Oh. I heard in a video certain adhd meds are neurotoxic, and I read recently that Adderrall is known to be potentially damaging to dopamine system in doses of 40mg and above Well that's when you take too much, since adderall is a commonly abused drug, and said abuse is regularly done with higher-than-prescription doses 15 minutes ago, TB said: It shakes to tell you chikara is not the on'yomi when it is asking for you to write the on'yomi? Yes, since I haven't learned the readings (or vocab or what - I don't know what it looks like yet since that's all higher level stuff) it's not asking for those, only the ones it's taught me (onyomi), I just happen to know the kunyomi on my own sometimes And, feel free to look into WaniKani just so you know what it is as a resource for others, but many people switch off of it to Anki once they're relatively accomplished as the more customized and down-to-business nature is better suited to advanced/excessive learning, so I wouldn't recommend WaniKani to you at all at your level (Triply so considering I regularly recommend WaniKani to absolute beginners because its free lessons cover a lot, more than enough to know if you actually want to take learning Japanese seriously - but for you, you'll obviously have to pay (and it's quite expensive) to get to any advanced content that's relevant to you) Edited September 21, 2024 by Luminesce Hi! I'll do first lesson tomorrow probably bad guppy, you were told in your sign up email to do it every day without fail, like I was, I presume My name is woofyhermit and I legit thought he called me a puppy at first I almost cried 11 minutes ago, Luminesce said: Well that's when you take too much, since adderall is a commonly abused drug, and said abuse is regularly done with higher-than-prescription doses I mean, 40mg and 60mg are actually prescribed doses, sometimes they think that dose is required despite the risks it holds 12 minutes ago, Luminesce said: Yes, since I haven't learned the readings (or vocab or what - I don't know what it looks like yet since that's all higher level stuff) it's not asking for those, only the ones it's taught me (onyomi), I just happen to know the kunyomi on my own sometimes And, feel free to look into WaniKani just so you know what it is as a resource for others, but many people switch off of it to Anki once they're relatively accomplished as the more customized and down-to-business nature is better suited to advanced/excessive learning, so I wouldn't recommend WaniKani to you at all at your level (Triply so considering I regularly recommend WaniKani to absolute beginners because its free lessons cover a lot, more than enough to know if you actually want to take learning Japanese seriously - but for you, you'll obviously have to pay (and it's quite expensive) to get to any advanced content that's relevant to you) I see. Yeah, I've used anki quite a bit, anki can be quite great and highly customizable and great for sentence mining, which is when while you are just consuming japanese media, you take sentences you run into you find interesting that are i+1 (i being current knowledge and the 1 being an unknown), so basically a sentence where you understand everything except one word or one grammar point or something, and you make a card out of it, where the front is just the sentence, and the answer is the definition of the word you don't know. If you aren't as advanced yet, the answer can be an english translation of the whole sentence, if you have access to a reliable or professional translation, as you don't want to make you're own translation, especially that early So if you start out with anki it may look like baby sentences with english translations, then eventually you may make cards that just have definition of unknown word, but ultimately you want to transition to a point where the answer to the card is a japanese definition aww I was going to show one of my anki cards as an example but I never installed it yet ever since I had to reinstall windows. I wonder if my deck will still be there, though I'm fine with starting over because I did with anki what you said you did with wanikani lol, like 9 months of abandonment. iknow.jp is just easier becasue everything is made for you, and it has japanese spoken recordings of all the words and sentences which you can make your anki cards have that but it is a lot of work to do so so most of my anki cards are just text Anki is also good for learning pitch accent if you want to learn how to make cards that teach pitch accent as well, which you should do as early as possible, if you care at all about not having a foreign accent in Japanese. If you don't care about having a foreign accent, pitch accent doesn't do much. It will actually inform you of exactly what word is spoken when dealing with homophones though, because hashi as in bridge and hashi as in chopsticks has different pitch accents, so if you heard the word randomly with no context you'd know what was said, but usually people talk with context that let's you know the difference without needing to know pitch accent and a lot of people learn japanese never even knowing pitch accent is something japanese has to think about. Japanese people are anal with each other with pitch accent, if someone says a word with wrong pitch accent, they will RKO you and correct you, but since you aren't Japanese, they will ignore you mistakes of saying words incorrectly. It's like the difference between saying baNAna and BAnana. banana in japanese is also banana, but in english we say baNAna but japanese people say BAnana. Basically every single word has a right and wrong way to raise or drop or keep flat your pitch, and this can also change with dialects as kansai-ben people will say the same words differently sometimes etc WaniKani says by the end you'll be able to read 99% of books and etc whatever. We'll see lol. Well I'm not going to buy it but if you don't learn grammar and/or immerse in japanese often, I don't think wanikani alone will get you that far if it is just kanjis/radicals/vocab, but it would be really helpful, especially since it claims to teach 6000 vocab, which is the same amount of vocab iknow.jp teaches I always heard the magic number for words to learn in japanese being 10,000 though, so idk why everything stops at 6,000. I guess by the time you are at 6,000 though you are in shape to learn the other 4,000 the same way you learn any new word in english, by looking it up, reading definition, and then just knowing it unless you never see it again and forget My anki deck was actually called 一万文 presumably meaning 10,000 sentences, it had like 150 sentences though lol Went through over 3,000 words and sentences on iknow.jp though. I never kept up with my reviews of them I said I was doing some months ago so I'll have to do that again, or choose another way bunpro seems to be an amazing website for learning grammar that I discovered, so I will be using that. Otherwise, I originally primarily learned grammar from taekim's guide to japanese grammar website. They give literal and down to earth descriptions of what the grammar means and translates them literally, so they are odd sounding in english but you learn the way japanese people express things, which typically is like a caveman, or santa clause, lol talkative today. hmm. yeah i feel inspired about japanese again, i just fear the inspiration will burn out in 3 days lol. Spoiler Spoiler bro what happened to iknow.jp's one time purchase option?? It seems wanikani is cheaper if you are paying a monthly subscription, but if you buy for the year, iknow.jp is cheaper, and I don't remember what the one time purchase for iknow.jp was, which is what I have, but I know it was less than 299 dollars, though still above 200 I think. So similar price but I wonder why you can't buy a lifetime membership anymore Iknow you get 6000 japanese words, 2000 chinese words with both simplified or traditional options, and like 500 english etude words or whatever it is called, so if you want you can learn to be fancy pants in english, all with example sentences and voice acting and multiple test types for learning with srs system WOaahh SHeerr TADA PanG yAO! speaking chinese was fun i don't even remember what that means and I typed it goofy, but when I roleplay a chinese person while playing fighting games, that's my go to line Creation for creation's sake. we draw things Resident Dojikko

Luminesce September 21, 2024 Share September 21, 2024 WaniKani is definitely something you should buy lifelong or not-at-all, there's hardly a use-case for only using it for 3 months (again mostly because the free content covers so much, you more than know whether you want to commit to it or not by then) (I have not bought it to be clear, though I did buy LingoDeer for grammar(+some vocab)) You're going to be very bored if you keep waiting to do lessons on wanikani lol, they're not like lessons in a class or textbook, they're going to throw you five basic kanji you already know and then you'll have to wait 24 hours to see the next 5 you already know (well, worse maybe since they'll be starting with radicals) 40/60mg adderall - I was told 40mg was the max I could take in a day, 20 and 20, I imagine 60 is an exception made for people who have particularly bad ADHD and that 40 is not enough for I believe when taken illicitly people still often take more than that do lessons every day - I only want to learn what I want to learn at my own pace, and, since committing to the multiple entire in-depth skills I need to learn for game development, I've not been able to justify committing serious time to learning Japanese Hi!
