I feel you aren't appropriately upset this time Also the first time he ran it made a lot more sense that a lot of people would fall for him because they think he would do better economically, even if those people ended up wrong. Now it is impossible to interpret anything about him as being hopeful as he proved what his real intentions are Also what does the chevron doctrine have to do with anything? I don't think people knew that was going to die when trump got elected in 2016. I feel like the chevron doctrine supports my point more, if it supports anything in this conversation 12 minutes ago, Breloomancer said: the main difference between his first campaign and now, to me at least, is that before he was an outsider, and now he is part of the establishment Yeah, the first time he wasn't a politician and was unpredictable. Now we know their exact plan and how they intend to enact it, and he has a republican majority to make it even easier. We also know the things he tried to do in his first presidency but couldn't, and how they plan to make sure it is possible the second time around gokuuuuuuuuuuu nooooo Edited November 6 by TB Creation for creation's sake. 'cus it (specifically the supreme court justices, but which led to that) was one of the worst things he could've reasonably accomplished (there are unreasonable things that could hypothetically be accomplished, but they'd be absolutely insane) and of course they didn't know, if someone like Trump did exactly what they said they would after being elected that would be actually crazy, that's frequently not how presidents work, especially not one whose existence is made of lies https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/supreme-courts-overturning-40-year-chevron-ruling-win-trump-deregulato-rcna159589 "agencies have no special competence in resolving statutory ambiguities. Courts do" lol, professionals whose job it is to be experts on subjects have no special competence, but courts who handle generic law disputes definitely know the ins and outs of any-and-all forms of regulations a corporation might need to abide by, whether food or hazardous waste or structural inspections.. also the judges are allowed to receive and not-disclose ""gifts"" Edited November 6 by Lucilyn Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! Lucilyn November 6 Share November 6 (edited) well things can get worse, like how -1001 is lower than -1000 (or maybe more like -1117..), but I was saying that was the worst thing I can personally imagine reasonably happening (well honestly, I think all the lawyers studying/having studied years of Chevron law couldn't even see it coming, but..), and that people under-cared about how bad that was, and also that we were fully prepared for such things when Trump won the first time, so saying it's only going to REALLY get bad NOW is not right at all (but it can still get worse-overall with -5's abound) I already talked about the positive effects an unheard of loss for so many people might have though, the wakeupingest of calls Edited November 6 by Lucilyn Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! Or at least I think there is too large a possibility of far worse that is quite uncomfortable. I see people expressing fear of losing their social security or medicaid and house among other things down the line with this direction. I don't think we can take rights for granted. America didn't always have those things, and trump proved that we can go backwards by getting us to lose women healthcare rights. When right to an abortion was overturned https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/24/roe-v-wade-supreme-court-justice-thomas-says-gay-rights-rulings-open-to-be-tossed.html Also that. It seems naive to think that they won't end gay marriage or more after ending right to an abortion. They all express the desire to do this and are in the best position to do it now, and democrats refused to make gay marriage a right by law with congress, and that definitely is not going to become a right by law in the next 4 years if it didn't under obama nor under biden. We are just going to go backwards as a society Heard crisis hotlines have been over burdened today with lgbt+ callers Also I fear losing HUD down the line. It's already underfunded to where long stretches of months at a time they don't accept new people because they only have so much money to pay for housing for who they already got. If the government cuts the funding, which I imagine they will with this administration, they would have to knock people off of it for no reason, or pay a smaller portion of their rent and increase burden on the renter. Also if they can manage to do it, they definitely would love to just not have it be a program at all and kick everyone off Edited November 6 by TB Creation for creation's sake. Lucilyn November 6 Share November 6 (edited) you're not the only one impacted by sweeping changes, if they do things like take many people's financial aid away there will be significantly more homeless/etc. people and if people are pushed to true hunger/etc. there will be actual revolts, which actually would be considered a good thing to a lot of people, like Bre well, but my point was that wasn't that likely, we're already nearing the maximum they can squeeze out of lower class people pepsi recently had to lower their prices because they raised them too high and enough people stopped buying as much that their profits actually decreased (pepsi as in the company, they own doritos and mountain dew etc. as well) tried to find a news article to link on that but all the ones I looked at had paywalls, disgusting added washingtonpost.com to our hosts file to block it on a system level Edited November 6 by Lucilyn Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! TB November 6 Share November 6 (edited) I don't think the people in power right now have enough foresight to be nice enough to prevent negative externalities of their greed, even if it means it can go bad for them. Humans have screwed that up a lot through history, like in france is always mentioned Apparently the dutch literally ate their prime minister once, for similar reasons Recently a rich person died in a submarine checking out the titanic even though he was told it was dangerous. He just fired the person who said his sub wasn't safe for doing that trip and paid the price Rich and powerful doesn't mean smart or having self preservation. It usually means incredible arrogance and feeling immune to consequences, which usually is true for 99% of cases that would have consequences for others until it eventually does Also idk how there is an upper limit of what can be squeezed out of lower class people. There are places doing horrifically worse things to lower class people, but I guess many people feel the US is immuned to things getting bad past a certain point, but that is a common thought to people throughout time who had relatively normal lives until suddenly things became truly dystopian. Everyone thinks things can only be truly bad in the past in history, or some other foreign place, until it happens to their country during their life And you didn't mention why you think social issues won't regress further than they already have. And social issues moving forward seems out of the question for next 70 years And not sure what you meant by me not being only one affected by changes like that. Of course it effects a huge number of people and it is horrifying, unless you meant it'd effect the policy makers too, but I don't think they see that. I don't think they will abolish HUD day one or something, but they will likely eat away at social programs in general and make things worse off for a lot of people Though yeah the only positive way to look at things is from accelerationist perspective I guess of dramatic change only coming if things get significantly worse rapidly but I don't feel as optimistic about that path ironically the one time policy makers are threatened and attacked, it was for not supporting trump, so I'm sure trump and his people feel pretty cozy and aren't worried about thought of people marching on their doorstep with pitch forks Edited November 6 by TB Creation for creation's sake.
