to my understanding you have to be real careful when using q-tips to clean your ears. you risk pushing the wax further back. not to mention a certain amount of wax is normal and a good thing.

I've been here a while. Much longer than I thought I'd be. Our system was founded October 2nd, 2018. In early 2020, we decided that due to our systems exponential growth, we'd limit who would be active. Now, every month, we do a check to see who wishes to be in dormancy and who wishes to be active. Currently, for the month of April, 2023, we've got myself(Bryan), Janey(Co-host), Emily, Layy, Chloe, and Esper(sub-rep). After over 2 long years, we can finally switch :)

Bryan is currently swapped in as host, Esper is sub-rep.

Most of the time I just clean them with my finger and a wash rag while in the shower, but occasionally I will use a q tip because it gets a lore more out and some people say to never use a q tip and only a rag, but doing that it seems you get too much wax in your ears eventually. Even more occasionally I use hydrogen peroxide to clean ears since my parents did that to me as a child, so I did that today which made them feel better for a while. I probably only do that a few times a year though

you ever wake up with this intense feeling of overwhelming dread for seemingly no reason

Ear infections can be caused by overly waxy ears, though they can be guaranteed by shoving wax further in, hence needing to not stick them in that far when using q-tips

We don't know anything past that though, there's actual ear-cleaning stuff I think but we can't stand liquid in our ears and don't have issues soo

For curing ear infections.. I also don't know, google or doctor

Oh right, it's also important not to do it often, though I couldn't say how often is really correct for each person since it varies from "never" to... weekly, I guess?
If you do it daily or days apart you'll bother your ears because they are, in fact, supposed to be waxy, not dry

working on the audiobook. I wish my client hired a fucking audio engineer to do this part like is industry standard.

pfft, no. these were unfortunately the terms I agreed to. my client was annoyed the first draft of audio I sent him was a little sloppy (not the recording itself, the equalization n such) but like, yeah, lowkey to be expected. I'm not a professional audio tech. this is my first time doing an audiobook, I'm learning this shit as I go. I'm trying to do it right but again, he kinda should expect it to be a little rough. I'm trying but I barely have a clue what I'm doing.

are you getting properly compensated for the extra work?

Depends on how "industry standard" it really is, I'd kind of expect a professional vocal-recorder to know how to provide clean audio

That's different from being part of a team or being hired specifically as voice talent, where there's an actual audio engineer to handle all that

there's a certain level of post processing the narrator does, yes, and that much is assumed in every gig I take. The stuff for ACX standard doesn't seem like a big ask at first glance but then you actually try to Do It and it turns out to be a lot harder.
