https ie ssl support?

Right now my password and cookies are in the clear, but I didn't think about that until I realized I'm on a public wifi network. So in the interest of not having someone steal my account, I tried https://community.tulpa.info/, which gives me a big warning; It's giving a certificate for server1.hostlatte.com. So I click through, and then it gives a 404.

Can you please support ssl, for those of us on a public network?

I don't visit as often as I used to. If you want me to see something, make sure to quote a post of mine or ping me @jean-luc

Unfortunately, I don't think SSL support for this site is going to be possible any time soon. We use CloudFlare to avoid stressing our hosting and the plan we use does not offer SSL support. However, I can suggest using a VPN provider or another form of anonymizer (Tor works in a pinch) and would be happy to assist if possible in that. Note that if you do choose to use a VPN or the like you should make sure your IRC client doesn't connect over it, there's automated checks on connect that can accidentally block you from connecting (it blocks tor nodes by default to prevent easy abuse).

Yeah, this has been a question before. Sadly, we can't afford SSL just yet, and we can't get a free alternative on our shared hosting plan. However, Iit could be an option in the future, depending on our eventual future hosting plans (more on that in a later announcement).

  • 4 years later...

I set https as the default a couple years ago, and was surprised to find that it's not redirecting everything (if you click the logo, or Tulpa.info Forums, it'll direct you to https, but clicking on other links don't). I'll look at getting that fixed through the weekend.
