My friend has wanted to try at creating a tulpa for a few months. However he has trouble concentrating. He can't sit up and actively force without almost passing out before anything can happen. I suggested trying with music to hopefully keep him awake, but that did not work either. He has ADHD and takes no medication, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's why he finds it hard to sit down and focus for so long.

 

Anyways. I told him about passive forcing, but he hasn't really tried anything with that yet. So I hope he'll have a little more luck with that since he won't have to work himself TOO hard.

 

Does anyone here have any suggestions I could give him? Alternate ways to active force, ways to prolong concentration without falling asleep, maybe some good ways to passively force that are effective in creation of a tulpa. He really wants to do this, it'd be a shame if he was just too restless to get into it.

I find it hard to focus too, and talking about anything that pops up helps! Thinking about that funny thing your friend did, talk about it, basically everything Strangelove said ^u^

One thing I've found helpful is Vipassana meditation courses. I think the closest to you, based on your profile (I'm assuming you know him in person), is the center in Jesup, Georgia.

 

Anyway, these courses are ten days, you take a vow of silence, and spend somewhere between three and twelve hours a day meditating. Food will be prepared for you, and the entire thing is free. They want you to focus on Anapana, Vipassana, and Metta meditations, but you can fake it and focus on forcing instead.

 

It's helpful because there are no distractions. Nobody talks, there's no music, no TV, no books, no games. All you can do is meditate and force. It's very difficult, but I did it, and I was diagnosed ADHD and never took medication.

That would be lovely, only he's taking classes at a tech school right now. He also has no job, so I doubt begging his mother for cash to go meditate for a while would go over too well. I don't even know how serious he is about making a tulpa, he probably wouldn't do that if he could.

 

I'm looking for a bit simpler suggestions, but thank you for telling me anyways!

Well, Vipassana is completely free. It's paid for by the donations of previous students. I can understand him not having the time though if he's in school.

Hey there.

So I have ADD and I have similar issues in stereotypical meditative forcing.

 

My solution?

In Buddhism, there are many different kinds of meditation, but the two I want to focus on are sitting meditation and walking meditation.

 

Now sitting meditation is usually done with eyes closed. One takes deep breathes, sits half-lotus, all that jazz. This is akin to the stereotypical notion of "active forcing," and I have issues with doing this.

 

The second kind of meditation is called walking meditation. It is essentially the same as sitting meditation, except you are walking and your eyes are open (because you don't want to run ir fall into anything!).

 

The second type of meditation is the one that has always worked best as my main active forcing method. To your friend, I would suggest planning out a nice route and just going out and focusing on his tulpa. Easy as 1-2-3.

 

On a side note, so far, Song as I have only really established sentience and vocality. I'm not sure how well this method works with things like visialization. Although, I suppose walking and imagining your tulpa along side you could work all-the-better. Get creative! Think outside the box! Don't let your buddy be discouraged!
