Is it possible to be doing everything wrong?

Basically everything you just described is perfectly normal, it's absolutely nothing to worry about. In fact, I'd be amazed to find a better list of doubts that are commonly experienced among tulpamancers xD Keep up the good work (and holy crap, did you draw that!? That's awesome!!! Oh, well, you removed it I think, unless I am just being totally weird right now. But still, if I saw that correctly, wow!)

Thanks so much, I've just been feeling ridiculously doubtful. I think probably my impatience has something to do with it... the sooner I hear from Chess and know that it's him, the sooner I'll calm down. And yes hehh, I drew that! I removed it because I've posted it on two other threads, and some part of me said to put my ego away... but I'm really proud of Chess so I'm totally putting the picture back up :-)

Haha, reminds me of when I first started, good luck to you and Chess!

[Those drawing skills though!]

At first I thought I was doing everything wrong, since it took him 4 days to become vocal. Then I realized it's a slow process. Can't wait for imposition. I'm not overwhelmed though. I'm having a blast.

4 Days? That's actually rather quick, or at least it was when I started, I got yelled at because of 6 days. I have no idea how the .info community feels on it nowadays as I don't come here often any more, but still, cool! And yes, roll on the imposition! :D

That's all normal. You're only five days in; relax and don't stress too much about progress. Visualization is something that many people struggle with, and it'll improve with practice. Most five-day-old tulpae are unresponsive.

Is there anything you guys can suggest to help give up "puppeteering"? Or to coax Chess into sentience?

You can find a few guides in the guides section on this, but I would just narrate as often as you remember to, or are able to.

[i would also suggest treating your tulpa like they're sentient as much as you can, I wouldn't get too bogged down in trying to get them to react. When the time is right, they'll emerge, so just keep trying to give them experiences and add things to their "mental dictionary" if you will, it will help and may even speed up the process. :) ]

Buddy, you're far to early in the process to be worrying about this.

From what I've read, you're doing exactly how most of us start. I didn't get any words out of my tulpas until weeks after they started being forced, and that was considered totally normal. I noticed that before they start talking, they communicate through other ways, so be on the lookout for those.

Also bitchin' drawing.
