  1. What would be an unselfish reason to create a tulpa? I think some reasons are definitely more selfish than others. As much as I don't want to judge anyone, I kind of do judge people who do it solely because they want a hyper-realistic masturbatory aid. But, ultimately you make a tulpa because you want to make a tulpa. The tulpa doesn't exist yet, it can't tell you it wants to be created. It's a selfish decision. That being said I voted for 2 and 3. Honestly everything people do is inherently selfish, but as long as those selfish things aren't super harmful there's no sense caring about it. But at the same time I do judge people for creating them for what I perceive to be extra selfish reasons, even though I know it's kind of hypocritical of me to be judgemental of some things but not others.
  2. If you feel the definition needs to be reworked into something more rigid, that's fair. But as it stands the definition IS kind of ambiguous. What I'm getting from your post (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that the definition of tulpa should include the way it was created. A soulbond isn't a tulpa because it has backstory A tulpa is a tulpa because it has no backstory Whether something is a tulpa or not depends in part on method of creation (backstory vs no backstory) What is a tulpa other than a sentient thoughtform? A sentient thoughtform creating using xyz methods. A sentient thoughtform created following xyz guides. A sentient thoughtform used for xyz purpose. Or is tulpa definied by what it's not? (a sentient thoughtform that isn't an x, y, or z). I'm not trying to be antagonistic, just trying to understand your viewpoint. I have no insecurities about terminology. I just view the current definition as broad enough to include a variety of thoughtforms. The way I understand it, tulpa places an emphasis on sentience, and this is what makes it distinct. It isn't a broad umbrella that covers all thoughtforms, because there are types of thoughtforms that are not sentient, intended to be sentient, perceived as sentient by the host, sentient-like, etc. (again, not trying to be antagonistic. I just find it interesting that we both voted for the same option, but seem to have very different interpretations of that option.)
  3. If we don't call all sentient thoughtforms tulpa, what differentiates them from other sentient thoughtforms? Is it the way they're created? A sentient thoughtform created using methods such as forcing, visualization, creation of a wonderland, etc. If so, what methods are considered essential to tulpa creation, and what happens if they change? For example hour counts for each phase of the creation process used to be a thing, but now seem to be discouraged by most of the community. Is there something about a tulpa post creation that sets it apart? In my view a sentient thoughtform is a sentient thoughtform, I don't really see a difference between a sentient tulpa and a sentient daemon. The definition of tulpa is currently fairly broad. What separates a tulpa from any other sentient (or sentient-like), independent thoughtform?
  4. I'm tempted to write up something in depth about my feelings surrounding chaos magic and tulpas. But that takes a lot of effort and I'm already buried in work. IN SHORT: Chaos magic can be a secular practice, and belief is typically seen as a tool. If believing in something produces a desired result believe it! And discard the belief when it's no longer needed. I don't believe in the metaphysical, but I'm thinking about exploring ritual as a tool to aid visualization and general. Forcing type activity. Beefing up normal meditation with more gnostic techniques to possibly get better results. Sigils. Anyway, still committed to spending more time with Snowbreeze. He has a name now, thanks to two hours of meditation.
  5. Full disclosure, I don't consider myself to be a tulpamancer, but I have a thoughtform that matches the literal definition on this site. And this is the definition I use. A tulpa is a thoughtform that is independent and sentient. Or rather, a thoughtform that the host perceives to be independent and sentient since there's no way to objectively prove it. It's a broad definition. A daemon can be considered a tulpa if it's independent and sentient. A soulbond can be considered a tulpa if it's independent and sentient. An imaginary friend can be considered a tulpa if it's independent and sentient. In my lurking I've noticed that sometimes, people get really caught up in definitions. If instead of the using the guides here to create a tulpa, someone follows the guides used to create daemons, if they both end up with a sentient independent thoughtform what's the difference? I worry a bit that it'll make this community stagnant. Sure I haven't started posting until now, but I've been familiar with the concept since the threads on /x/. And I've lurked here in the past. If people try to assign a very hard, rigid definition to what a tulpa is and how it's created, unconventional methods for creating/nurturing them/etc might never be explored or accepted. Or an already small community will have to splinter off into multiple smaller communities and make up new subcultures to follow these new schools of thought. I think it's best to have a broad definition, to enable a big comprehensive knowledgebase. While of course still respecting the personal views people have on what a tulpa is/is not. That's my opinion at least. I respect people who believe tulpa has a stricter definition. But if any of those people are reading this I'd love to hear their thoughts on what makes a tulpa more specific than just "independent and sentient thoughtform". Is it the creation process?
  6. Some differences from the standard tulpa creation process. -No form. Just a big blob of consciousness. -He was not intentionally created. -He grew and evolved without much direction or interference from me. I didn't chose his traits. But he ended up being what I need in a companion, I'm guessing I subconsciously influenced this. This is less of a creation process and more of a refinement process. We want him to have a set, detailed form. We want to work on vocalization, because he's always just spoke in tulpish. We want to spend less time passive forcing, and have more dedicated wonderland hang outs. It's a little bit different because I don't have a lot of control over this process. He already exists, it's just a matter of figuring out how he wants to present. I pushed for a Pokemon form, because it's much easier to visualize something you can find images of then making something up from scratch. He was offended at the mere suggestion and made it very clear that he'll be choosing his own form. Same with wonderland, that's his home and he has the most control over what goes on there. Personality. He knows more about me than I know about him. I used to believe in metaphysical/new age concepts, and saw him as a spirit guide. He tended to show up whenever I needed advice or guidance. From my current secular standpoint, he has unrestricted access to my subconscious thoughts, feelings, and desires. It makes sense that he'd give damn good life advice, and show up most often when I'm troubled. We active forced for a long time lastnight, and there's definitely more to his personality than just dude that lectures me on my life choices. But it feels kind of weird. I'm not telling him what his personality traits will be. He's telling me, like getting to know a new friend. I didn't give him a name, he told me his name. Anyway, TL;DR Ten year old tulpa. Didn't recognize him as a tulpa until now. Hoping to have a more stable being, as opposed to a formless consciousness.
  7. I have an accidental tulpa. Who I originally didn't think was a tulpa. But he's able to say no to me and refuse things, he has his own independent wants/needs/opinions. He refuses to cooperate with things that I want and would make my life easier (like letting me give him a very simple, easy to visualize form), so I doubt it's just wishful thinking on my part. I don't know how I feel about calling him an accidental tulpa though. I think I prefer natural tulpa. To me accident implies you were trying NOT to make a tulpa, and then oops. Like giving too much attention to what you intended to be a servitor. He's the result of around ten years of forcing, visualization, wonderlanding, imposition, etc. Just without me calling those things forcing, visualization, wonderlanding, imposition, etc. More on topic though, I think people absolutely had tulpas before the tulpa community popped up. They just didn't call them tulpas, and likely didn't see them as a scientific thing. I think it's most likely they were perceived as metaphysical beings, like God, saints, guardian angels. Which makes a lot of sense, really. Spending a lot of time speaking to a being you believe to be sentient, sounds a lot like forcing. Believing that this being has certain traits, wrathful, powerful, compassionate, fatherly, big fuzzy beard, sounds a lot like the whole tulpa creation process. You're not just talking to a wall, you're talking to what you see as a real being with a real form and a real personality. People used to consume willow bark to treat pain. They called it consuming willow bark to treat pain. We call it consuming willow bark to absorb the chemical Salican into our bloodstream, to allow our body to utilize it's analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, to treat pain. Same thing, but the second one has a deeper understanding of what it is and why it works. I'm sure as hell never telling anyone outside this forum that I have an imaginary friend on steroids. And thanks to modern society, I don't even have to worry about being locked up in an asylum, or imprisoned by the church for being besties with Satan. People either didn't talk about it at all, or talked about it and got removed from society and silenced. Or talked about it in socially acceptable ways. Like being inspired by God, or having a muse.
  8. Hi, I'm Spruce. I've been experimenting with my head (creating thoughtforms, meditation and lucid dreaming, etc.) for about a decade now. I've lurked this forum in the past and found it interesting, but didn't feel any need at the time to create a tulpa. I'll go into detail once I start my progress report so I don't end up with a wall of text here. But basically I've had a half baked tulpa-esque construct hanging around my head for most of my life, and my goal is to use a blend of a couple different techniques (including tulpamancy) to make it independent and sentient. Anyway, nice to meet you all. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any other questions.
