CupWithHandle2.thumb.png.9ba6f078b8e632ac07e688ce4b0224b5.png

Today I made a clay cup out of smoothed clay coils, a press pull (I forgot the name) was used to make the coils, then I rolled out clay, with a rolling pin and two wood blocks to prevent it from getting too thin, then I scored and slipped a coil to this base, then I squashed the clay onto the base at the inner bottom part, then I placed multiple coils on top of each other, then I smoothed both the inside and the outside with two different serrated kidney scraping and smoothing tools, I then used the press machine again, this time with a different hole grid to make a handle, the I scored and slipped the handle onto the side of the outside, then I painted the whole thing with one layer of paint.

Notes:

- Score and slip = scratch and stick

Making 3D things by making coils with a press machine and blending coils together or blending on the outside and/or inside of the shape.

- To roll out a flat base, then to put the coil around the top of the outside with score and slip and then to blend the inside of the coil to the base.

- Clay can be spread over a (mushroom shape?) to create a bowl shape which can be smoothed with a serated kidney.

- Slab, Pinch pot, Smooth with sponge.

Keep up the good work, Seagull! 😊 It makes me think it was made out of a branch or something a gnome or other fantasy creature would drink out of.

Kidney scraping and smoothing tools! Are you a surgeon now?!/j

Will do! Thank you lots for your encouragement!

Like a fantasy cup made out of wood, oh I can see it! That's cool way to think about it.

Haha! I don't know why it's called that, maybe it's because it looks like a kidney bean.

They told me the name of the tool and I was like, you got to be kidney-ing me! /j

There were a metal seated kidney with teeth, and a smooth plastic one.

Amazing work, Seagull^-^ I love the smoothness of the curves in the handle and the side of the cup. Shaula is right, it really looks like a medieval wooden cup, like something a viking would pour ale into^^

It's really nice!

Thank youuuuu! It means a lot. 😊

The handle turned out really well, the teacher there helped with with it, so I don't know if I can do that again, lol.

It seems like using up and down strokes with the brush makes a nice wooden texture with the paint!

That you so much! It's a rush to get it done in time, but it's really satisfying to see the end result.

Today I made an clay envelope, hot dog and abstract piece, then painted them.

To make the envelope I rolled out clay cut it into a square, folded in 3 of the corners and scored and slipped the inner sides of those corners to stick it together.

To make the hot dog a rolled up two pices of clay abd and used cutting tool to slice the bun part.

To make the abstract piece, I rolled up three clay pieces and scored and slipped them together.

Notes

- Lift and turn to flatten clay
- To pop air bubbles
- To use arm anf forearm
- Square clay
- Slab rolling (smooth kidney tool)
- Dry to stand and make a box is an advanced option
- Or to make a 3D envelope
Fold 3 corners, hold up with paper
- Corn flowers poof to stop metal/plastic from sticking to the clay (looks like baking flour)
- Plastic triangle ruler to cut clay with
- No elongated corners to prevent stretching the clay
- To very lightly score and slip the corners
- Could slice and roll back to look like a flower maybe

Important note:

This is the final post of this thread.

Going to this art group has been great experience for me that I will remember well.

Thank you for looking and reading.

Awesome work, Seagull^-^ I don't know how you got that hotdog to look so much like it has the texture of a real hotdog, also I love how the envelope looks like it's made of wax, that's kind of ironic and I love it xD
