This is true, but it was also the 90s and much like today there wasn't a guaranteed for something to stick around. Picard (Patrick Stewart) himself was convinced that the show wouldn't go past a season, which is very common in the tv show industry. Regardless, it's in the nature of these "episodic" tv shows to be very lackluster at the beginning, they are after all made to fill out a tv program schedule, and producers care more about the "quantity" than "quality" up until it becomes a cult classic and some higher quality writing is necessary (Once Upon a Time is also another great example of this). It's hard to also gauge "character definition" when you're barely into S2. There's entire plot points and characters you don't even know about yet - things like the history of Q and Borg, but you'll get there. We've watched too many TV Shows (it was our standard practice when having dinner together) and usually the "episodic" shows (Once Upon a Time, Fringe, Elementary, Person of Interest, Suits, House M.D etc.) are those you watch "while eating" with minimal effort - those shows are designed to be self-resolving in each episode with maybe a few minutes of "core plot" sprinkled in - but then there are the actual "seasonal tv shows" those with less than say, 13 episodes per season and aren't self resolving (Breaking Bad, Severance, Sense8, Pluribus etc.) Definately keep up with TNG, I watched it 3 times and is still one of the best sci-fi shows ever made imho - they also had the decency to stop at a pretty good point too (which sets up the story for Deep Space Nine)

wesley is annoying, and the show certainly would have been better without him, but that wouldn't have fixed season 1. the plots are frequently nonsensical and have unsatisfying resolutions, the characters and world lack internal consistency between episodes, the dialogue and character interactions often feels stilted, and all of the characters aside from data and, to a lesser extent, picard, are extremely underdeveloped and bland apparently, a lot of the scripts in the first season were originally unused scripts for the original series that were adapted for tng, and you can really tell, because a lot of the time the characters are out into roles that seem really ill suited for them in season 2, so far, the characters have become much more defined (worf has especially improved), but the plots hadn't improved much. i'll say, season 2 episode 8, "a matter of honor", has been the best episode so far imo; the plot is around the same level as the best episodes of season 1, but the characters are better defined if you enjoy season 1, then good for you, but i believe that i am justified in my low opinion of it

Disagree, it's just some characters that bring it down a bit and also it being the first season still has a lot of rough edges It's also in the nature of "episodic" tv shows to be sort of slow at the start, because the underlying core plots still haven't been fleshed out Number One still doesn't even have a beard

most of the season 1 episodes are not good

All of TNG is peak

Of course! 😊 It could use some polishing but it's still really cool! Good night, sleepy Byakko! 😊

"measure of a man". i haven't finished it, so i still can't give my personal opinion, especially since so many of the episodes i've seen so far seem to fall apart in the resolution, but i've been told that it is the first great episode of the show and one of the better ones overall
-
Awesome gif, Byakko! 😊 It's so cute! Lol! 😆 Congrats! 😊 I agree, at least it's not too long of a wait.

Finally finished season 8 of rick and morty today. Season 9 is supposed to be coming to hbo on the 15th, and it's kind of annoying that I have to wait for it now. If only I stretched out my episodes a bit more
-
That's unfortunate. Hope it comes back on soon.
