Artificial intelligence/ Definition of consiuosness

Recommended Posts

A neuronal network is two orders of magnitude coarser than a molecular simulation. This makes them way cheaper. The article you cited states that only one percent of the brain was simulated. Depending on the quality of the model used to predict the behaviour of a neuron, I think divergence could be so fast that the simulated mind falls into insanity before its first coherent thought. Essentially, you might get epileptic seizure on day one. Higher quality models require more computing power.

Sorry, I went off memory and didn't read the article.

I stated the things I believe our conscience is made of in my first post. It isn't of physical matter but the way they are reacting together inside of the brain. Just putting the same materials together won't result in conscience by itself and won't be the same person.

Oh. I thought you were talking about some kind of soul. I know a lot of peole that talk about souls, the loving god that lets little childern starve and unicorns all day and I highly apologize for thinking you were talking about this stuff! Of couse I think you're right. I think what what I ment by:

Of course memorys are only the same memorys if they get read in the same context

The information that the both of you gave mewas really useful. I think I really have to deal with the speed of the simulation.

What do you think about this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atom_laser     for 3D printing

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_computing          for simulation

1) An atom laser could very well be one technology employed in 3D printing. But it won't be the most important component.

Protein synthesys technology and tiny robotic arms to deposit the proteins in the right place will probably be key.

2) No one understands quantum computing. I think this is particularly true of people who write journal articles about quantum computing. I make this claim based on my expertise as a computer scientist. A quantum computer is a computer type demonstrating low level parallelism.

EDIT: Darnit. This post is frustrating me. I can't tell which one of us wrote it the most.

I looked low level parallelism up and apparently it helps to simulate something big so what was wrong about the link? Sorry. Did I make a mistake?

To be comletely sure that the virtual world is like the real world the "Theory of Everything" woud have to be used I think. Of course that would maximise the required computing power. It would be impossible to do so even though only a small place would have to be simulated. (The place where the AI lives most of the time)

Maybe instead of using the theory of everything it would be possible to use many more specific theorys for different cases. Do you think this would save computing power?

You don't need a theory of everything. The correct functioning of the brain does not depend on the perfect emulation of all principles of physics.

Yes but a virtual world would be perfect to give the AI memorys without much effort. It would be almost impossible to think of every impression the AI should get (for example I wouldn't want to create every picture which the AI ever saw).
