An awesome book has always stayed in my personal library, called The Self Illusion. I haven’t read it years, but from what I remember it was written by a psychologist who studied the effects of a medical procedure meant to cure seizures that involved cutting the bridge between the two hemispheres of the brain. While the procedure was usually totally effective, with the patient usually noticing no difference in cognition, strange behaviors would eventually crop up months later.

Lots of patients would report each side of their body behaving independently. One of my favorite examples was someone reaching for their clothes in the morning with their right hand only to discover that their left hand had retrieved another set of clothes without their knowledge.

CGP Grey did a wonderful video on this:

My question I guess is has anyone related this to perhaps how tulpas operate?

That's so cute. I don't know enough about this to relate it to tulpas, but it has gotten me looking for more information. Note what CGP is saying/implying isn't universally accepted.

This was Betty's account. Now we'll all use it.
