So, I have a tulpa named Kat (she/they) who I’ve been forcing for a week or two (technically I started them before that,  but then I forgot for two weeks, so I basically had to start over). Recently, I really felt like I had puppeted something that they said and felt a lot of doubt. Right after that, I didn’t feel their presence near me in my mind, and whenever I tried to force they wouldn’t respond and their form felt like an empty shell. I looked into it a bit, and I realized that it was probably normal. Since then, I’ve been thinking of them as dormant, but I also know that a lot of things in tulpamancy are based on what you think, so is thinking of them as dormant making them dormant? (Note: this is my first tulpa, so I don’t know much)

Frequent fronters:

🦜, any pronouns, tulpa

🪷, any pronouns, she/they pref

That would be "what you think shaping tulpamancy". Your brain learns tulpamancy by you telling it "There's another person in my head; look, that thought there was actually them". So, doubt like "That was not them, it was just me" is the exact opposite of that process, telling your brain there's not another person in your head.

Early on, "the difference in it being your tulpa or just you" is basically unimportant. You just need to shape the experience you want to eventually have with your intent and belief as best you can. Eventually your tulpa should start to feel and sound independent from you, with their own voice/feeling to what they say vs early on. Then usually the process is just practicing talking/interacting until they go from short, simple responses to full sentences/more complex thoughts. Eventually they become impossible to mistake for yourself, although some thoughts may just be fluff still, and you just need to learn to designate what thoughts were what (or who) in a way that tells the brain how to think of them.

Anyways, there's no reason to think of your tulpa as unintentionally dormant, it's only a slightly better belief vs thinking they're gone or something, but it's better to just know how the process works and keep on making progress regardless of how it feels as the exact moment.

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.

Thanks! I just checked a couple minutes ago, and I can feel their presence again. I haven’t been able to hear them again yet, but I’ll keep trying, it feels like how it did a couple of days ago when they weren’t quite vocal.

Спасибо! Я проверил пару минут назад и снова чувствую их присутствие. Мне пока не удалось услышать их снова, но я буду продолжать попытки, такое ощущение, что это было пару дней назад, когда они были не совсем вокальны.

Did you succeed? If so, can you tell us how it happened?
