I did a search for the term accidental tulpas on here, and was surprised I didn't see anything. i know most of the time people who find tulpamancy  try to creat their own after a long hard process of developing, sculpting, and exercising their tulpas that could take months if not longer. But what of those that suddenly appear out of nowhere, or with very little concentration and input, just seem to become self-aware and sentient within a matter of days. I didn't have a trauma or abuse, i don't believe that my tulpas are a product of some time of dissociative disorder. But the fact remains, i currently have 10 personalities, including myself, that present themselves at any given time with their own autonomous thoughts. I don't hallucinate, most communication is either in my mind via English or as tulpaish. our 9 tulpas were all accidentally created. springing from characters we used in online erotic roleplay with other people. and after a few sessions of roleplay, we felt that the entity was expressing their own feelings separate of myself. I've been on my tulpa journey for 3 years, going on 4. in those 3 years, we had almost 3 tulpas accidentally created a year. now, they have died down. it has been almost a year since our last accidental tulpa creation. i'm glad the storm has died down. because it can be hard keeping track of all these personalities. has anyone else experienced something similar to this?

The search feature takes a little finagling, I checked the "Topics" box to select only the Q&A and General Discussion boards and the "Search ALL of my terms" to search for both "accidental" and "tulpas"

https://community.tulpa.info/search/?q=accidental tulpas&type=forums_topic&nodes=13,4,44&updated_after=any&sortby=newest&search_and_or=and

But yes, there are tons of accidental/unintentional/spontaneous tulpas here. All three of my original tulpas were accidental, while the second and third specifically were ~spontaneous (I had thought about their original characters a lot, while the first, Reisen, I basically unintentionally created more traditionally... two or so years before tulpa.info existed) (and my fourth, Lucilyn, I created years later on purpose a year after finding this forum)

The topic of accidental tulpa creation basically boils down to "You only create tulpas when you treat them as separate, independent entities; if you don't acknowledge them as any more than characters, then that separation is maintained" - or in other words, don't let them become tulpas. If you think of an advanced character as independently thinking and feeling, like a tulpa, then you're making them into a tulpa. But if you let them exist in your mind just as an advanced character, that's all they are. Exploring their relation to waking reality, the rest of your brain, and above all else thinking of them as aware of you/reality, is how you get a tulpa.

These things are also still not strictly "a thing", though. We group experiences under specific terms, and they're helpful and real in that sense, but there's no strict difference in your brain between a kind-of-tulpa, mostly-tulpa, tulpa, possessing-tulpa, switching-tulpa and so on - they're all just vast possibilities of potentially nebulous experiences that we're simply making sense of and organizing, but in reality these strict terms are not how your brain really works.

All that to say, what has final say for your experience is your own thoughts and beliefs on things. If you think things are working a certain way, or if you believe they're sentient and independent (or not), those are what shape the internal experience you'll have. All of these organized labels we create as a community just serve to guide your thoughts/beliefs to create similar experiences, if that makes sense. (Though they also enable us to actually communicate and discuss our otherwise purely subjective experiences with each other, instead of being pure chaos)

Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn.

Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature.

My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.

@Luminesce. Thank you so much. we were worried that we might be experiencing DID without realizing it, and assuming it had a Tulpamancy facade. we are still not sure though. we've had conversations with DID systems on another platform. they were of that assumption. that we were experiencing DID, and just masking it as tulpamancy, assuming our 'trauma' was living in the closet related to our host's sexual orientations, and being emotionally abused by his wife. we realize that we might be tiptoeing the line between the two. but we don't spontaneously switch between personalities. we area able to fluidly switch our front depending on who has something to say in the current conversation.

You are not experiencing DID, and you should be careful about absorbing ideas from such spaces, they are often highly delusional echo chambers. Seriously, be wary of the 'DID' community. It's harsh, but I do not think most of them even have DID, I think they're just tulpamancers with the worst possible ideas possible surrounding their practices. DID forms in childhood and you would absolutely know if you had it because you'd be having regular bouts of amnesia and probably dramatic trauma responses. It is a disorder, not just a different way of thinking. It has symptoms that can't be completely ignored, and if you have to ask, you almost certainly don't have it. And to be clear, this is not a situation where "Oh but if I'm forgetting how can I know?" is valid - People with DID wake up in places they don't know, and have black holes in their lives, and end up forgetting deeply important things before they start to re-integrate their memory with therapy.

What you likely actually are is just suggestible. You're clearly quick to absorb ideas rather than piece them apart with strong skepticism. This is the same mechanism that hypnosis works on. It's something anyone can do, but some people are better at taking ideas and acting on them in intuitive ways. It's a useful thing to be, but a double-edged sword. Be careful with it.

Zen - Host. My history includes an interest in different forms of magic and Paganism, then Buddhism, then finally hypnosis through a more Atheistic lens.

Rhys - Tulpa. Initially a literary thoughtform of my own creation produced completely by accident in a period of intense writing that spanned roughly three months.

Asterion - Tulpa. Literary, but not of my making. He is Asterion Minoides of Krete, The Minotaur. I just think he's neat.

Other inactive thoughtforms include Mika - The first fully homegrown tupper made with tulpamancy.
Lukas - The eldest, initially abandoned and remade long after everyone else.
Night - The Shadow Self embodied. He's a spooky wizard, and like me very full of himself.
