Einulf August 22, 2015 August 22, 2015 I wouldn't have anything to add to the general plans already mentioned above, but my one big advantage world be my knowledge of blacksmithing. Why go miles away to get a knife when you can make one, or just about any other tool, from car parts? Part of that knowledge also involves how to make charcoal from raw wood, so fuel wouldn't be an issue either. Brassow August 22, 2015 August 22, 2015 Why go miles away to get a knife when you can make one, or just about any other tool, from car parts? Well... most supermarkets or stores have many knives and blades on shelves along with other essentials. You would need the smithing gear, the forge, a fuel hot enough to melt the parts, and the force to tear the metal off the car. When the price is less than a Gallon of gas, I'd prefer to simply travel to a nearby Meijer and grab some snacks while I'm at it. In addition, how can you say the quality of the blades you make stands up to one that can be found in the dozens? Einulf August 23, 2015 August 23, 2015 I actually already have everything but the forge itself, and I've seen people make them out of pots and old tubing before, so that's not a big issue. As for the fuel, I mentioned that I know how to made charcoal from raw wood, and that's what blacksmiths used for a few hundred years before they switched to coal. Quality would be an issue at first, but I have made several smithing tools already, including a chisel that could easily be sanded to a nice edge, and the suburban area I live in would make finding steel a moot point.
