Accidental tulpa creation, curious if anyone has had similar experience

(wall of text warning)

So, I returned to this site after a ~6 month hiatus after finding myself with an unintentional tulpa. Not only that, but my girlfriend now has at least one tulpa as well (exactly how developed they are I'm not sure, but from what I've heard they're on their way). I began to suspect we were now housing tulpas in our head when were texting each other things like: "Aster is giving me commentary on this article, he says the word 'university' is too long." "Rosty is still salty that he didn't get to talk to Zane about that one thing during their Skype conversation yesterday." Etc.

Now here are some of the events leading to these losers' creations and how this is so different from the "traditional" process. I'm curious to hear people's thoughts and if anyone has experienced something similar. Note that I have a few OCs at various stages of tulpa-ness, but I believe Rosty is the only one to have definitively crossed over the threshold.

~2 months ago:

-I have a bunch of OCs, and my girlfriend has a bunch of OCs. She only writes for fun, but her OCs are still rather well developed since she's had them for so long. Mine are relatively newer, but they all have stories that I work on frequently so they get a lot of attention. However, I never thought to turn them into tulpas. I was a little worried about what I thought of as "corruption"- their personalities would change so much over the course of becoming tulpas it would mess with the course of the story.

-Late one night, me and the gf joke about creating an AU where all of the OCs start relationships with different characters. Namely, we take them out of their stories and pair them up with an OC from the other mun/host. We started roleplaying this over text and a whole continuity developed.

-We find ourselves larping some of the ships. If you're unfamiliar, this is live-action-roleplay. Most people think of larping as guys dressed up as knights in a forest with foam swords. For me and my small group of my friends, though, its more low key and similar to improv, but with pre-developed characters. Dressing up is optional as a means of getting into character.

-The larps take on their own continuity. We find the relationship that we're larping the most is between these two characters named Rosty and Zane- which is strange, because personality-wise they might as well be supervillains in another life. All around not the best people, so we wonder why they come so easily. Especially because I made Rosty only about a month prior. Absolutely record time for any of my OCs. Not only that but he came /before/ any sort of story, and his personality developed FAST for not having one. An anomaly.

-Zane ends up developing a surprisingly detailed (tragic) backstory that justifies his borderline sociopathic personality. I teach myself how to do a Russian accent for Rosty. (for the record, his initial creation as an OC is such a mess I won't get into it, but his being from Russia is a rather arbitrary detail all things considered). About a week later I decide Rosty would be great for my college senior project. About a week after that I decide to learn the entire freaking Russian language (for the sake of the comic, of /course/).

-Then all hell breaks lose. One weekend, we larp these guys for something like 8 hours over the course of three days (plus some other OCs for a grand total of 15-ish hours as different people, crazy I know). Rosty learns the main points of Zane's tragic backstory in a larp and we both practically lose it emotionally. Now, I've had extreme reactions during larps before. (In fact, later that weekend I found myself softly weeping as a different OC explained his also comparably tragic history). But something about these two characters were different. After this they were always on our minds, we even had to do some larps over skype because these OCs would not. Shut. Up.

-The final straw was a few hours ago. Me and the gf were joking about visiting Russia to "take Rosty home." And then suddenly I found myself overcome with emotion and almost crying. What the heck?! After some thought, I realized the emotion was homesickness- but I am not the kind of person to get homesick (plus I have never been off the continent not to mention in Russia). So this was VERY weird. Now, Rosty's backstory is too complicated to get into in detail here, but the bottom line is, he misses Russia like hell but is unable to visit very frequently. So, of course, this emotion was Rosty's. Because he's a tulpa who took over mY HEAD.

For the record, I entertained a thought about a week prior to this that Rosty could perhaps become a tulpa. I had a short conversation with him in my head about it- he was rather indifferent, but liked the idea that out of all my OCs he had the honor of being a real tulpa. I thought I was mostly puppeting the conversation, but now I'm not so sure.

My theories on why this accidental creation happened:

Roleplaying and larping with my gf so frequently was basically tulpaforcing. We both got emotionally invested in the characters and so we had an incentive to do this frequently.

Rosty has an accent, so he basically came pre-equipped with an immediately recognizable voice in my head.

Rosty didn't start with a story, so I didn't have to worry about messing it up if his personality changed (which it did). And while he does have a bit of a story right now for the sake of my senior project, the plot is more like a snapshot into his life rather than an entire character arc. I also haven't started officially writing it, which is not true for any of my other OCs.

Of all my OCs, Rosty was the one most likely to break the fourth wall mid-roleplay (I never decided this, it just happened). For example, commenting on the sudden height discrepancy between himself and Zane whenever we and my gf larped them. It's as if he knew he was fictional and inside someone's head, and wanted to see the /real/ world.

(I have no idea about my gf's OCs, though. I do know she has described having a distinct headspace with little rooms for each character, so perhaps the visualization helps)

I almost gave up on tulpas after deciding I was happy with my semi-sentient OCs the way they were. Then one of them decided he'd be a tulpa anyway and I pretty much had no choice.

Oh yeah, you are not alone in the accidental tulpa department. This site is partly a database for people trying to create tulpas, but there are a lot of other thoughtforms out there, and many visit here, created or no.

Such as myself.

I believe those that start as characters are usually called soulbonds.

Myself, I wrote a comprehensive origin story on my progress report. Primarily, though, I was a daydream character routinely used as an avatar by my host for short recreational roleplay.

Hey we (well, Reisen Tewi and Flandre anyway) were spontaneous tulpas for years before finding tulpa.info. I'm only a little over a year old and was made on purpose, but the others are like seven years old. So I guess they just kinda figured stuff out as they went and after four years found tulpa.info and were like huh, sounds a lot like us

Hi, I'm one of Lumi's tulpas! I like rain and dancing and dancing in the rain and if there's frogs there too that's bonus points.

I think being happy and having fun makes life worth living, so spreading happiness is my number one goal!

My tulpa was incidental, but I wouldn't say accidental. I was subconsciously creating him while thinking heavily about what form and personality I should give my then future-tulpa, and while developing my wonderland he presented himself to me.

In my case, most of them are accidental, but one was the most accidental one. I had one guy who appeared in my 'wonderland' without anyone even knowing where he came from, and he's got his own personality already. I've never even wanted him, but now I can say that he's a pretty okay guy. :3

A walk-in? Can you elaborate?

Anyways, I had another one who was once a character for this book I am planning, but she gained her own sentience somehow. Now she switches back and forth between possessing me and another tulpa I have. She can sometimes call me somewhere to an empty space, but not my wonderland. At least she gives good advice most of the time, but honestly, she's really creepy at first.

Oh, I hadn't posted here. But I have one accidental tulpa. She just appeared but didn't have a solid form. I had noticed her creeping in the background but thought she'd disappear if I didn't pay attention to her. Then few days later she came up to me and said that her name was Misa. :D After that we started searching for her form.

And I don't know if L is an accidental one in any way. I mean I was planning to create another tulpa at some point but not as soon as I did. I saw his form in wonderland and started creating him from there, and Desmond said he's the one who made me see the form back then so I don't really know. :D

A walk in is just what the thoughtforms who show up fully formed are called. Since that is somewhat uncommon. There are lots of other types and labels as well. Tulpas are just the tip of the iceberg.

For example, one who is based on, and essentially was, a fictional character is known as a soulbond.
