Like possessing you if you're in danger, though that's a rather extreme example. The vast majority of benefits a tulpa can confer you are mental tricks you can already do for yourself using specific methods. For instance, one of my tulpae works with me to help me manage my autism, to where I seem semi-normal to the average person. I should also mention I've been off my meds for over two years now, and I've actually been doing (slightly) better in college than when I was on them. Some people have reported their tulpa giving them some degree of eidetic memory, though at this point we don't know how much of this stems from the meditation aspect and how much is purely due to a tulpa's influence. Also, supposedly psychics and clairvoyants and the like can detect the presence of a tulpa, provided they aren't full of crap and really can sense auras and that sort of thing.
