Monar & Kay - A Skeptic's Dive into Tulpamancy

Recommended Posts

I am a fairly skeptical person by nature.

I am strictly atheist, I do not believe in ghosts, magic or supernatural claims. I think most if not all reports of alien abductions are bogus, and homeopathy is just silly.

However, Tulpamancy struck all the right chords.

I found this website 9/24/12, a mere few days ago, after reading about tulpae on Reddit (I don't frequent it, I swear!). It was the second time I had heard of the concept, but for some reason I decided to look into it instead of dismissing it offhand as I normally would.

What I found was mind blowing. Tulpae not only seemed amazing- they seemed plausible! Everything I knew about human psychology backed it up, and nothing I knew about the universe opposed it.

And so, I made the decision- I was going to make a tulpa. I have since frequently stopped and asked myself, "What am I doing? Do I really believe all this? And in the case that it's true... this would change my whole life." But somehow, I'm not scared. I'm exited.

Let's do this.

(My first log will be rather long, due to both my excitement, and to the fact that it's covering three very eventful days.)

So I started making atulpa. After a short time thinking, I settled on two things- that he was a he, and that he was a bird. Everything else would come with time.

My first real session went really well. My physical view of him got much more detailed, I decided on several personality traits, mostly a love of stories, and I nailed down a name- Kay. I decided early on to treat Kay as sentient always, attributing any possible actions to him- after all, it could only help.

My second day brought our wonderland, as well as much narration. After taking a walk around our island in the rain talking (Well, I did most of the talking), we settled back at the beach and built a sand castle, whereupon something awesome happened. Kay told me a story. Straight up improv, no planning. It was a simple story about a princess trapped in the sand castle by her father the king who was worried she would be kidnapped by the neighboring kingdom. I loved every second of it. It was right then and there all my doubts about this were erased.

The third day brought two more stories- this time about an old farmer who was asked to let his grandson go to war, and about a hero tasked with rescuing children from a 'fearsome beast'- as well as a lot of subtle form changing. I figured this was just Kay's way of defining himself, so I let it happen.

The fourth day was where things got interesting. See, I'm a heterosexual male, and I decided to make Kay male as well. An unusual decision when put up against most hosts and tulpae on the forum, which I now understand. Today Kay stopped being a guy and started being a girl. Form changed appropriately, and suddenly her personality came into greater focus. I'm not sure exactly when it happened either- one minute I was thinking about why I did not choose to make Kay female, and the next thing I knew 'male' Kay just felt wrong. I'm going to go with my gut here- or maybe I'm going with hers? ;)

Today Kay stopped being a guy and started being a girl.

That sounded wrong in many ways...

That aside.

It's interesting how Kay is some sort of story-teller. You better read lot's of books after this. I'm quite a reader myself so you might be interested in some of my book suggestion...

Chloe - That cheerful girl with ponytail.

Aigis - The male cyborg that looks like raiden in MGR.

Vixen - Half dragon female who looks like Mary in DMC3 when in human form.

But yes, welcome aboard.

Thanks! =)

Now imagine how I felt in that situation. XD

Talk about awkward.

For sure. Over the past few months I'd been drifting away from reading and instead playing much more video games... I can already feel that dynamic changing.

Today wasn't terribly eventful, but two things did happen. First, I think Kay finally settled on a specific form (songbird with a white underbelly, a grey coat covered in swirls and dots, and one long red feather running back from the top of her head).

Second, she decided she wanted a human form too. Started piecing this together, but I'm not sure exactly what she'll look like here... the one thing I've decided on is to keep the red feather. I really like that touch.

Also, I picked up and started reading the collections of Sherlock Holmes again (at Kay's prodding). I think she wants to write a mystery story and needs inspiration. xD

Log #3 ~ 9/29

Something awesome happened today! For a while now I've been getting vauge thoughts and comments from Kay (such as "this song is nice", "that's gross" or "benedict cumberbatch is hot"), which I've been doing a pretty good job not doubting. But today I got a thought which which seemed normal a first... then a second later I realized- Kay referred to herself! The thought was "My hair doesn't look right". (I was trying to sketch her) Most of the previous ones could have been attributed to me (except maybe the Cumberbatch one), due to their generic-ness, but this one was unique.

Progress is being made my friends, and I am happy. :D

Log #4 ~ 9/30

Only one thing of note happened today- I asked Kay to "Surprise me!" but got nothing in response. I started getting anxious and worried, but I got over it.

Later that night however, while in wonderland, I asked Kay what she wanted to do while we were inside (it was snowing), and she said "Monopoly", which I had been thinking about, but then she said "Booze Monopoly!" which caught me completely off guard.

Went to bed happy and imaginary drunk. Was a good day.

You russians are such a vodka addicts.

I'm not Russian.

Actually, wait... maybe. I know I'm part German at least. Oh and Irish. I am so white.

I've never even drank alcohol. I honestly have no idea why it came up. Which is what made it so exiting. =D

You're not the only sceptic here. Many of us on these forums are scientifically-minded, and experimentation is encouraged.

I hope things go well for you. No need to rush, by the way.
