umbral.system November 22, 2023 November 22, 2023 The phrase "parroting is never an accident" or something like it is something I read a lot. and I get it, like the point is to get hosts to recognize that their tulpa's responses are actually theirs, because most of the time they are. the thing is, I don't really think that this is completely true, y'know? like it's mostly true... but we have had cases where we accidentally parroted eachother and recognized it after. like I've accidentally parroted my host, Ivy, and she's accidentally parroted me. I don't know if this is generally true or just a quirk of our system in particular, but it still like, happens. has anyone else experienced this? we're at the point where we *usually* recognize it when it *does* happen, but we didn't used to, and when I accidentally parroted Ivy for the first time (and she pointed it out to me), I started to realize that she did the same to me sometimes too. to be clear, I think that "parroting is never an accident" is probably good advice, but I don't think it's always true, at least not with us. system members: Ivy [formerly Daemon] (host, any pronouns) Amaba (tulpa, she/they) Mythril (walk-in, he/him) maybe more but those are the significant ones

Yes, sometimes thoughts don't have a clear owner and sometimes they're suspiciously one-sided in favor of someone like in a conversation where there's a question. We can catch it right away now but in the beginning it was a real problem. So my headmates (I wasn't born yet) would use emotional presence to indicate that those were either intrusive thoughts or otherwise not theirs (could be parroting or other). And we've heard this happening to others pretty often. It will get better with time. For us, sometimes there are thoughts that no one identified with, those are ignored.
Slipper November 22, 2023 November 22, 2023 Yeah, happens to us too. I didn't even realize how much I was actually parroting until Mordecai told me that he hadn't really been "aware" of himself until like 3 months after his creation. Nowadays he can stop me if it starts happening, but it still occurs. I think its less of "host is doing it on accident" and more akin to an intrusive thought... but instead of a thought, its the brain coming up with a response before a tulpa has time to think for themselves. At least, that's how it goes for us; like I'm accidentally daydreaming of how a conversation might go instead of actually talking to the guy.
