Some reflections from an original forum user

Recommended Posts

I joined tulpa.info back when it first started, when it was using an old bbforum-esque site design. It is remarkable to see just how far the site has come, and yet also how comfy it has remained. Obviously the backend has been reworked, but the frontend still maintains the same logo I remember, and the tulpa.info homepage is the same as I remember it. I am glad to see that the remains of early 2010s internet have long since been shed - wherever new users are coming from, it is probably a much better source than the original infusions from /mlp/ or /x/.

Reminiscing aside, I reflect very much on my original time here 10 years ago. Not just about the forum, but of having a tulpa itself. The guides gave me a lot of structure as a young person as to ways to analyze myself through the contruction of another personality, which aided in my understanding of other IRL people. The memory palace I constructed is still burned into my brain quite unlike anything else, and I can easily see myself and those fragments of recollection in my mind's eye as I write this. Of being able to believe in someone else, who believed in me. Helix, my tulpa, was so special to me because of that, and so thank you Pleeb and the other admins for helping to make that happen.

It was unfortunate that I deleted my account, and that I sort of gave up on the idea of a tulpa - but it never quite left me. The perspective I gained has been important in my own self-awareness, and I think frequently on who I was when I first began here. Young, immature, and unfocused - but curious enough to entertain an idea which has persisted through the many iterations of myself.

Looking at the forums now, I can look back on many of the ancient posts and see those who logged off, never to log back on again, people with whom I chatted with and entertained my childish antics. But as much as one can mourn over the digital disappearances of an FAQ Man or That One Guy (or that one guy with the nose avatar who posted about binaural beats all the time), it is remarkable to see how much new life has continued to be breated into the site itself is, with so many new guides and FAQs having been created in the time since I left.

I look forward to soaking up as much of this new information as I can.

Also, it feels good to finally have met my hosting pledge that I promised so long ago haha.

Welcome back! We joined in 2018 and have been here off and on since then. When we joined there were tales of "when the site was active" yet it was very active at that time. Now we could tell tales of the time we remember it being more active. It's still active of course, but there's not much new going on. We are doing our part to document new ideas, among others still here.

So, hi and enjoy your stay. There are a lot of deleted accounts even my host deleted his and he was very active. Look in almost any forum game and you'll see anon which is most likely his.

Welcome back. I’m happy to see someone from a decade ago drop by and say hi, it’s definitely more interesting than disappearing without a trace.

Wondering how many old hard drives Fede’s tulpatones are buried under right now

If you knew him, Glitchthe3rd still makes occasional appearances every now and then, as well as (less commonly) fourfiction. Other than that, the vast majority of people on here generally don’t get any older than 2017.

There’s no doubt stuff has definitely happened on here/is still happening, but Ren is probably right that it’s died down more recently. It’s a whole can of worms about the new GAT giving the forums a bad name a couple years ago, plus some here-and-there drama, but most of the stigma is just residual at this point.

Most of the community is scattered across Discord these days, but the people that stick around here make it worthwhile

This. The last thing I want is for this place to die out, and there is still so much crazy stuff people haven’t documented.

It’s always been for science on here, at least for me

I didn't know you back then -- I'm very new.

When you say, never quite left you, does that mean your tulpa still communicates with you from time to time? Is your return here an attempt to reinvigorate that connection?

I definitely remember them, it is nice to hear they pop by. Going through the lists of old members, there are definitely lots of people I remember talking with, their avatars etched into my brain.

Seeing the conclusion to the Ouigi/koomer saga was interesting, I remember being concerned at the time with how far that was going. An interesting quote from the ama they did after the fact:

Quote

You are not feeding that side of you with anymore "energy". But it cannot truly die, it never really disappear. You can bring it back if you desired. It's always will be a part of you that you must live with.

Which I can resonate with.

I never felt that my tulpa really achieved a state of sentience I was happy with, or that it was capable of speech beyond me puppeting her. There was maybe one time where I felt something come through, but it was fleeting and difficult to pin down.

So no, its not that she communicates with me, though I can draw parrallels and connections between her personality traits, and who I am today, hence the residual feelings. In a way, it is an attempt to reinvigorate that connection - or build upon the frameworks that I built then to forge a new one.

Shifts in society I suppose. In some way, I am happy I joined when I did, because it imprinted on me in a way that I don't think would be possible if I was the same age today as I was then. The lack of activity, I don't mind. It was very chaotic at the start, so to see it achieve an equilibrium is nice.

God I really am old, we may have started at the beginning of 2018 but we remember when the forums were running myBB. Having full control of the formatting- good times.

We were also on the IRC before it died. I'm sad there are people on there we will never see again

I wish the forum had roles like Discord so you could ping everyone with a "2013" role. I always see people from 2013 drop by every few months, it's sad to see them disappear for a bit

I swear there was a dedicated thread for people from around 2013 to say hi to each other, I don't know what happened to it ;_;

Note: I'm hit-or-miss activity-wise on this account. I may not respond to PMs for awhile.

I'm Ranger, GrayTheCat's cobud (tulpa), and I love hippos! I also like cake and chatting about stuff. I go by Rosalin or Ronan sometimes. You can call me Roz but please don't call me Ron.

My other headmates have their own account now, but it's outdated and I can't be bothered to update it

If I missed seeing your art, please PM/DM me!

I think you mean this. An old topic that's got revived by some oldies. And deaded again.

Lol, that makes sense. I forgot it was in Kadoh's PR
