Nobillis October 7, 2013 October 7, 2013 1. I want to create a tupla or maybe a servitor that literally represents my subconscious. I know how, I've read the guides, but I am looking for practical second opinions on the wisdom of this. [Watchdog 3 says: Go ahead: You may end up with a monster, possibly a very nice monster - but a monster none-the-less. I wouldn't consider that sort of thing advisable unless you already had set up some ground rules like:No unethical behavior,No harming the body,No harming others except in self-defense as defined under the law in effect in your locality. This is what I would do, and did do to myself. You see, the untempered subconscious has no bounds on what is permissible to think. The thoughts I think are most terrible (I would estimate I'm most likely a sociopath, on a relative scale - and, for reference, Kevin wouldn't intentionally hurt even an ant). But thinking, and doing, are different things. Better that I bind myself by ethics, then do something everyone would regret.] 2. I suspect our personalities and self awareness are in themselves tulpa-like. Thus who we are can be shaped like one too. I think I have done this myself, has anyone else? If so, what were the consequences/ effects (if any) for you? [Watchdog 3 says: I subscribe to the Gestalt theory of Psychology. "The whole is different from the sum of the parts." Each of Kevin's tulpas (except Nobillis) is effectively a copy of part of himself. If you take the tulpas kerin, Watchdog 1, Watchdog 2, and myself; and formed a gestalt; you would have, Kevin. Disassemble this gestalt and you have, tulpas. This was the original purpose of tulpas as I understand it - to learn about yourself. Consequences and effects for us have ranged from great heartache to great joy, and finally inner peace (I attribute the latter to the Lord of Heaven's interventions). A monster I am, but a peaceful one. Apologies if I am "disturbed." I assumed that by posting here you wanted some answers without the "kid gloves." Perhaps a benign malevolent thoughtform may have been of some service to you. I hope that I have.] Please consider supporting Tulpa.info.
left blank October 8, 2013 October 8, 2013 You should see the blue me with the robot monkey there which I totally drew before Avatar... Steampunk Monkeybone meets the Na'vi. There's beauty in unbridled irreverence; just embrace it. Or you could adjust the hue until it's sooty and reminiscent of argyria. It's a fantastic portrait, at any rate. In seekings, I have experienced a similar type of character as well. I am pretty certain it was my "totem spirit" - which I am pretty sure is a raven - wearing a face a I would trust which was... Harry Dresden. I didn't see that depicted anywhere in your gallery, but I really want to. I'm imagining something like a corvid version of the sphinx from Mirrormask. ...a gate keeper. I think it will be some sort of gargoyle with freaky eyes. I don't know yet. That feels right. Whoa. If I'm interpreting you correctly, that's similar the harbinger entity with which I'm most intimately acquainted (for want of a better word). http://www.hotherym.net/bilder/Volucris-Redux-Mothman-Night-Wings.png[/img] (Image size changed to comply with Rule 1.2.) I don't know if she qualifies as having "freaky eyes" beyond the biolume, but nictitating membranes are grossly underrated. Anyway, I hope you post more about your mental meanderings sometime down the road. Regarding your original inquiry, and since you have an affinity for the arts, I have to ask if you're familiar with Peter Birkhäuser. He's the only artist I know who exclusively dreamed, painted, and engaged in dialog with, several dozen of his archetypes.

All our brains are full of sticky primordial business I am fairly certain. Beauty can teach us about horror just as much as horror can show us what beauty means. It's a fantastic portrait, at any rate. Thanks! I was practicing digital coloring off a photograph, and I had a D&D character at the time who was an artificer and he had that monkey ;D I didn't see that depicted anywhere in your gallery, but I really want to. I'm imagining something like a corvid version of the sphinx from Mirrormask. Nah it just looked like Dresden. I just got the sense that I had known the character deeply and had known it for a long time... which made me suspect it was more than just some arbitrary made up guide. I asked it if it was my totem I had dreamt of before and it said yes. Whoa. That's the mothman right? The tulpa I have in mind is more like the Gargoyles animated series, but with a dash of the Aye aye... freaky squirrel bat looking things. I had never heard of him, but I will definitely check out his work. ~Wielder of the Sacred Spatula~
left blank October 8, 2013 October 8, 2013 That's the mothman right? Strictly speaking, no, but it was included in a mothman book and documentary. Frustratingly, I haven't been able to get find time to drafting up a proper turnaround. Took me several years to finally understand what it actually looked like. Whatever it is, it's been an unyielding presence for most of my life. "Gatekeeper" is a good description, as is harbinger. guardian and psychopomp. I eventually started calling it Dimorphentomopterus volucris, or just 'volucris'. I was more than a little unnerved when I discovered 'mothman'. Honestly, I think my friend managed to bring out its best features with her rag doll effigy. The tulpa I have in mind is more like the Gargoyles animated series, but with a dash of the Aye aye... freaky squirrel bat looking things. That also sounds eerily familiar. Please art this thing. I will add you to my dA and hold my breath. Suffice it to say, lemurs, monkeys, bats, owls, potoos, and anything with the big eyes and Gremlin features appeal to me in a large way. When, at the tender age of five, I first saw the Fieries in Labyrinth, I felt like I'd had part of my mind ripped out and crafted it into a marionette. Delicious.
