Discord April 8, 2014 April 8, 2014 There's a certain philosophy I don't like that's a part of tulpa creation. It's basically, that it's ok to make a tulpa stick with a personality that you planned out. I've read many guides that say tulpae are not toys, but most people still try to make them into anime characters, ponies, etc (don't get me wrong, I'm a brony, but I stopped trying to make pony tulpae, although I still call her Twi, and I haven't really seen her form in my mind's eye change, so guessing she's ok with it). Although maybe I'm assuming too much, like what if, those expectations end up feeling natural to the tulpae? Right now though, I think maybe not all of them like having their personalities decided for them, but they put up with them because they love their hosts and don't want to disappoint them. It's like if when we were being given life and form, and our mothers had control over how we think, act, look, etc, and they said "you're gonna be a lawyer whether you like it nor not. And you're gonna have a stuttering problem, because it's cute". Edit: Then again, maybe I'm overreacting. I feel that tulpae usually want around the same thing that their hosts want anyway, and if they really don't like a trait, they'll tell their host and ask if they can deviate. And as long as the host is willing to allow their tulpa to deviate, I don't really see a problem for using a base form to get started. Will list tulpas when I get things sorted out in my head.

But whatever the case, maybe they thought that talking with your tulpa, and making a compromise with deviation and such would be an implied action to consider, which is why they may have been telling half-truths in said premises you were bothered about. There may be dogma in what people think is pragmatic when it comes to form, but they are merely dispositions, not irrefutable facts that you have to constrain yourself to of course. There have been people that utilized pre-existing forms, but that didn’t undermine their ability to engage with their tulpas to contribute in them developing their own unique sense of self. So it may be just how you’re overacting to certain dogma of certain individuals (e.g. people who state that certain actions are frowned upon, and must not be taken into consideration under any circumstance). At this point, you just ignore them, and just know you’re not one to be a psychopath with no conscience of how you want to go about contributing to your tulpa’s uniqueness. Don’t let the words of others undermine how you would personally assess these matters. But when it comes to tulpas, this concern individuals would have with tulpas putting up with the entrenched predispositions of their hosts (e.g. what they want them to be indirectly), a simple way to assess that is for them to ask questions to their tulpas like: Hey, how do you feel about yourself in general? Are you comfortable the way you are? You know, you’re free to express yourself in more ways than what I may have intentionally wanted you to be in. Is anything bothering you? Part of the reason why these concerns comes up is that the host may not really question to their tulpas on these matters. Learning to be thoughtful, and reflective of things we may take for granted, and not fixate much on can go a long way. When I started out creating Eva, I utilized personality forcing, but only as a supplement with a myriad of methods, and she’s changed in personalities and characteristics, and the same goes for Ada. Now, they’re like a blank canvas, and it’s a matter of experiential observation from us to distinguish who’s who, and such. But this is something that would be implied with a sentient being progressively developing, and trying to validate their existence. Discord April 8, 2014 Author April 8, 2014 I have had this doubt before, but after I went through a new form of tulpa creation.... actually going into the universe of Equestria. Far-fetched... I know, I was simply going to create this "portal" to this "universe" to have an "adventure," but apparently Fluttershy started showing high sentience. I didn't do any of the Narration for her, she seemed to say it for herself. It eventually got to the point where she told me of her dreams and wishes... how she wondered about how animals think differently than ponies and such. Some sort of memory shift happened from me to her because she started talking about trying to create a "tulpa." I was filled with shock, and I simply told her that there was something she should know. I told her that I would see her again tomorrow to tell her the truth about me. (I was my OC. ^_^ Shapeshifting is awesome...) After telling her everything the next day (next day in Equestria, for me it was a few days), she herself was shocked as well. Although, I told her that I could bring her to my world as a tulpa, or she could stay in her world. She said she wanted to come.... curiosity maybe? I'm not sure, but the entire idea of Equestria was formed in my mind along with the characters. The mind is powerful that way, it can build it's own universe and even multiverse. Might even say create any reality we can experience.... She came... along with Pinkie (Teckie was using her body, so she pretty much "hitched a ride" on her mind as we came back. XD Think of it like a tulpa of a tulpa... in which can merge into a single being. Well... that's Teckie for ya. O_O ) The point I'm trying to make is that the mind creates it's own universe. You can take the entire idea of a character and put them in your head, but it is always good to let them decide whether they want to change or not. Think of it like this, if you were taken out of this universe and became a tulpa in another universe, how would you react? You would probably change into things you always wished of being. As with calling her Twi, don't doubt that that is her character and treat her as if she is her own person. She might have some doubts of her own and may want to explore the "universe" in which she resides. It's all about the physics you create in the mind as well. If you think that she's Twilight, then she IS Twilight. Get an idea of how her consciousness might have shifted from her universe to yours and it would seem more realistic to both of you. If you can convince yourself that something is reality, then it IS in fact reality. Don't doubt, just believe, and it's true. You just inspired an idea. What if I try to make Equestria in my mind, then make a blank room with a portal to Equestria? Although I'm guessing I might have to create Equestria manually in my mind's eye first in order for it to exist within my mind? Or maybe my subconscious has already constructed it based on my past knowledge of it's geography from watching MLP episodes. I could also just imagine Twi's library I guess. And if I want to see more, I could ask her to take me on a tour, and the rest of Ponyville should build itself as she's taking me on a tour, right? Will list tulpas when I get things sorted out in my head.
Redline April 9, 2014 April 9, 2014 Well, I did that at first. I decided I was going to make blah blah blah and she was going the blah blah blah, and then I started forcing. As far as it goes, she was pretty blah blah blah, but then self doubt came in- crippling self doubt. What if I'm not creative enough to give her room to grow? What if all of this justifies me never thinking again? What if I doom this new consciousness to pain and turmoil because I wanted something that she wasn't even ready for? At first, things were bad. But I like to think of it like this; I may have made her, but she's making me. Mom made me, but mom doesn't know what I do at school. Even if she wanted me to be a lawyer, force is only going to mess that up. Besides, it's better to watch your kids grow. I know a few people that made some tulpas based on animanga, and all they told me was that things change. If they wanted an Itachi, Itachi he would be, but the subconscious stepped in at one point and just rewrote it overnight. They ended up with this pouty, whiny boy that in no way resembled the original. For the character to live like that would mean the host would have to stay on top of them and constantly guide their thoughts in ways that look time consuming and painstaking in nature. Ves is Ves because I let her go. Some hosts don't want to do that, but most pretty much agree that super constant on-their-ass surveillance NSA style is a little too overboard and that there's a chance that you could (and pardon the expression, I mean it in the lightest of ways in this experiment based community) be doing your shit entirely wrong. It's a matter of throwing caution into the wind and hoping that what you thought up will grow. You can paint an acorn any color you want, but it's going to be an oak tree after. What size and shape depends on the gardener, but for the most part it'll still provide shade. You learn to love the tree for all it is, and all the points you love about it. Vespera is practically the only thing I've ever put so much effort into, because it's art. It's art in motion, and she isn't going away if I do this right. This is where all the good stuff goes
