Guest Anonymous May 16, 2012 May 16, 2012 Do any of you guys have shrinks? I had one due to anger issues, and I'm going to see a new one in about 10 minutes. I hope to ask him (if my mom isn't with me) if he knows about tulpas or adults with imaginary friends. And in the movie A Beautiful Mind, the main character has schizophrenia. His mind adapts the hallucinations to the scenario, and the hallucinations actions are sometimes caused by him. I KNOW THAT TULPAS AREN'T IN ANY WAY SCHIZOPHRENIA but could our minds do similar things? GTG.
Lulu May 16, 2012 May 16, 2012 I don't think it would be a good idea to mention tulpas to your shrink.
glitchthe3rd May 16, 2012 May 16, 2012 For the last time, a tulpa isn't induced schizophrenia, and it isn't multiple personality/dissociative identity disorder either. I had one, back when I was 12 or so. Except he couldn't do his fucking job properly, so my parents started taking me to a psychiatrist instead. Someone with a tulpa could be misdiagnosed as having both, but the differences would be obvious if one were to look into the details. Were any of your psychological problems related to imaginary friends?
glitchthe3rd May 16, 2012 May 16, 2012 Nope, autism. "Science isn't about why, science is about why not?" -Cave Johnson Tulpae: Luna, Elise, Naomi My progress report
Guest May 16, 2012 May 16, 2012 Nope, autism. Damn, now that sounds potentially useful for making servitors/tulpae.
Ned Bigby May 16, 2012 May 16, 2012 I don't think it would be a good idea to mention tulpas to your shrink. We don't live in an society where people get locked up and medicated if they they show even the slightest deviation from sanity. If the shrink thought anything it would probably be along the lines of "wow this poor lonely kid"
Ned Bigby May 16, 2012 May 16, 2012 Do you want to be thought of as a poor lonely kid? What's the worse that can happen here? Getting advice for loneliness when you aren't lonely? (unless Rustler has one of those nutty evangelicals for a shrink, in which case DEFINITELY KEEP YOUR YAP SHUT) Personally I don't see the point in talking to someone like that about tulpas, but it probably doesn't hurt anyone.
Irish May 16, 2012 May 16, 2012 I went to a shrink when I was younger for anger issues, other than that I have no mental problems. To be honest it's a best idea to keep quiet about the idea to shrinks and psychiatrists I doubt they'll understand but and only BUT if you feel like telling them and feel like being the guy to tell someone then go for it. Don't expect anything pleasant though lol.
