Ranger November 1, 2020 November 1, 2020 In the Discord server, I was going over the general "merging" formulas and thought... Well what happens if you put just some of your merger partner in you and vice versa? Instead of (A) + (B) = (C) or (A) + (B) = (AB), what if you get (A) + (B) = (?) + (?) I want to call this concept mixing, assuming its stable and different (enough) from blending. Any thoughts on this? Extra Questions: Spoiler Would this be a weird way to merge or is just another form of blending? Has anyone tried this? If so, I want to know about it! If doable, how stable is it? Note: I'm hit-or-miss activity-wise on this account. I may not respond to PMs for awhile. I'm Ranger, GrayTheCat's cobud (tulpa), and I love hippos! I also like cake and chatting about stuff. I go by Rosalin or Ronan sometimes. You can call me Roz but please don't call me Ron. My other headmates have their own account now, but it's outdated and I can't be bothered to update it If I missed seeing your art, please PM/DM me! Guest November 1, 2020 November 1, 2020 Sounds like facets. Facets are not limited and like actors or RP, you can have any number or quality of facets that make you up. A and B = C and D Darlene did this with her shapeshifting to a limited extent. A = B or C or D Unless you want some sort of personality aspect exchange, then you could really do anything like A + B = C +D Before SheShe, Darlene and Ashley played around with trying to "even out" their strengths. Ashley's personality is very strong, and has been stronger than Darlene forever, so giving Ashley her name was in a way one attempt to do this, as if the name transfer could tone down Ashley a bit and give Darlene a fresh start, but call her Dashie or Ashley, she's not affected at all. We haven't gone any further than that except that SheShe can be any combination of her constituents on a whim, form and personality hints or flavors, she'll throw a little Joy at me or be shy like Gwen or be authoritative like Darlene, or be fun like Ren, then again, that is exactly like a blend when she does that and what she is A + B + C +D = E or A or B or C or D or A + B + C + D + E or any combination or list. And of course Darlene is the shapeshifter and SheShe had shifted into the same forms that Darlene had, but as herself. We haven't had issues with any type of merge since SheShe. Conventional merges were unstable to some extent depending on who, but not since Lock-Merge, it kind of trained us to understand how to merge, and we do play around with merges a lot now.
Reiji November 2, 2020 November 2, 2020 We haven't tried to mutually exchange traits, but I did attempt of mine to copy a trait from Ghostly to override my own. Specifically, I wanted her fondness of snakes to overwrite my fear of them. So I tried to focus on what makes her fond of snakes and adopt that way of thinking for myself. This was partially successful for the duration that I was focused on liking snakes the way Ghostly does, and though I don't get the same smile on my face that Ghostly does when seeing a snake I can tap into that to calm my nervousness around them. However, if I'm not focused on that, I revert to my natural tendencies. Chimera: Something I've noticed as a lock-merge is that fears and discomfort tend to override other traits that come into conflict with them. For example, Grant experiences gender dysphoria, and that means Bridget's girliness can't be expressed through me. But if traits compliment each other they can "boost" each other. Bridget likes some bugs and Leaf and Johnny are animal lovers in general, so I just love those little guys. So maybe there's a possibility that would have an effect on how stable mixes can be or how they'd turn out. I feel like mixing could also be merges that result in two tulpas instead of just one? That probably depends on how much of themselves each partner puts into the exchange. Identities are pretty complicated and I feel like there's a lot of ways they can come together into a merge. Granted, our system doesn't have a huge amount of experience with that because we haven't experimented with conventional merging since our early days.
