Zeno October 31, 2021 October 31, 2021 (edited) Today I went to the cinemas with my girlfriend to see Venom 2. We had been a fan of the whole Venom concept, because we liked the idea of a second entity living in a human body. During the movie, we began realizing that the relationship between Eddie and Venom actually looks a lot like Tulpamancy. The only difference being, of course, that Venom is a physical being, and can decide to do as he pleases by simply throwing himself out of Eddie's body and being able to make physical contact with their world. But the interaction between the two was actually inspiring, it showed how easy it is to interact with a second entity in your body (or visualized outside your body, of course). At the same time I realized that concentrating on conversating with a Tulpa while being in a social situation is hard. You have to keep on switching your focus on different people, more so than usually, because the people around you do not sense your Tulpa/Venom. Is it impossible? No. But it just gets crowded in your head really fast. I could relate to such moments in the movie a lot. I am not entirely familiar with the most common terms used for Tulpamancy, because it has always been a part of my life (since I was 9) without ever being in contact with the community. But the movie also gave the the idea that when a Tulpa "possesses"/when you "switch", the Tulpa should be able to also just co-control only a part of your body. I do not want to spoiler the plot of the movie, but in the end, Venom was using Eddie's feet to feel the sand they were sitting on. This is something that a Tulpa should be able to do as well, and I'd actually like to try something like this with Kyra as well. Overall, if you believe Venom is comparable to a (physical) tulpa, you could consider watching the two (three, if you count Spiderman 3, but Venom isn't really comparable to Tulpamancy in that movie) movies to get some inspiration yourselves. What do you all think? Edited October 31, 2021 by Ranger ~ 𝒁̲̅𝒆̲̅𝒏̲̅𝒐̲̅
Ranger October 31, 2021 October 31, 2021 We haven't seen Venom 2 or the first one yet, I'm afraid there's not much we can contribute before we see the movie. I wanted to mention one of us saw the trailer and wondered if it could be related to tulpamancy. Seeing this thread was pretty satisfying. Note: I'm hit-or-miss activity-wise on this account. I may not respond to PMs for awhile. I'm Ranger, GrayTheCat's cobud (tulpa), and I love hippos! I also like cake and chatting about stuff. I go by Rosalin or Ronan sometimes. You can call me Roz but please don't call me Ron. My other headmates have their own account now, but it's outdated and I can't be bothered to update it If I missed seeing your art, please PM/DM me! ruleofthumb October 31, 2021 October 31, 2021 Stone: This makes me want to watch Venom (I was already planning to at some point but it takes me a while to get to movies). It sounds like it is somewhat comparable, but I'll have to see it for myself. Someday
Etna November 1, 2021 November 1, 2021 Cool. Only seen the first one, but I see where you're coming from. We had similar thoughts while watching Free Guy - that it was kind of a Wonderland scenario. Doc (she/her) = Host Franklyn (he/him) = Tulpa
Cordyceps Canine November 13, 2021 November 13, 2021 I've only seen the first one so far but together with the His Dark Materials series it's something both me and Cletus enjoy a lot. Because honestly that's exactly what it feels like, Cletus doesn't talk. Doesn't mean that he can't communicate though so we have our moments of me wanting to focus on something, or say something just to have the "dog" have non of it. Fun situations. Not...well okay thinking back it's funny. Also represents the taking control of the body quite well in our case. Since with Cletus that one is never on the gentle side.
