I don’t have a tulpa myself, but I think a friend of mine might have accidentally manifested a few. I’ve known her for a while (since I don’t want to give away her name, we’ll just call her E) and she would say random stuff that didn’t always sound completely like her, but I brushed it off as just part of her personality; I’ve see  stranger. But then one day she told me that she had a bunch of “demons,” as she calls them, living as separate consciousness within her own mind. They all have separate personalities, mindsets, beliefs, alleged backstories, etc. The thing is, they take possession of her at random times, though she doesn’t seem to mind and just rolls with the punches most of the time. A lot of this phenomena sounds similar to accidental tulpamancy, but I’m not certain. The one thing that doesn’t line up is that one of E’s “demons”, Caine, claims that they are immortal, and not bound to however long E is alive. I’m unsure how valid this claim is. I just wanted to ask if anyone knows of something like this happening, because I’m kind of concerned even though E herself seems fine with it. Seemed like the right place to ask around.

That sounds more like Dissociative identity disorder. Tulpas don't randomly take over but alters do.

Hang on for a second, demons does not automatically mean DID. I have seen real Etsy posts selling spirits including demons. The demon listings tend to be nsfw so here's a fire angel spirit as an example:

While that's a bit of a silly example, I hope that illustrates the fact you can have a very metaphysical perspective on cocreation (tulpamancy) and have never heard of plurality before.

 

Given that, it's still possible they're cobuds (tulpas), only they developed them with a metaphysical mindset.

If you believe a "demon" has more authority over your body than you do, then yeah, that bad mindset can lead to weird outcomes. However, this assumption is the worst case scenario.

 

Your friend could also believe it's natural to have their "demons" to take the wheel whenever they please and that simply doesn't bother them.

Created headmates of any kind, particularly those created with metaphysical beliefs, may claim their "soul" is independent of the human body or whatever. Again, while very different from the typical psychological beliefs cocreators (tulpamancers) have, the underlying experiences may be very similar.

As long as E feels in control of their situation and they're happy, that's all that really matters. If they do feel stressed out, I don't mind you DMing me on Discord (I don't really keep up with the forums) and I don't mind chatting and coming up with solutions.

Yeah this feels like her expectations of what this is is shaping her experience. She may have a dissociative disorder, tulpas, a daemon or actual demons, but in the end if she truly believes they are demons, like Ranger said, her experiences with these beings will reflect that. As long as she doesn't find it distressing it's nothing to worry about probably. As soon as it becomes a problem, she should seek out medical help. Have her do an evaluation or something, could be something non-pathological, a dissociative disorder or psychosis - no one can tell unless she actually goes to have this checked out.

To think that they're tulpas and she randomly loses control of her body is creepypasta. It doesn't happen like that without some underlying mental illness and in that case you wouldn't call them tulpas.
