SilverRevlis December 6, 2012 December 6, 2012 Waffles, indeed, the simple act of creating a character does not make a tulpa. I could, for example, think of a mouse that talks like Joe Pesci. That is a character, but not a tulpa. A writer however does much more than that. A writer has to visualize the characters form in great detail, how their voice sounds, what kind of person they are, how they would think, what they like, dislike, etc. Now, what exactly are the steps to creating a tulpa? The same ones, with the only difference being that you treat the tulpa as a person from the get go. This is what leads me to believe that a writer could, to some capacity, create a tulpa out of their character. Secondly, also never implied that thinking of a loved one created a tulpa of them. If it did I would have a tulpa of my sister. However, picture this scenario. Tesla feeds the birds. One day, he sees a particular bird, one that strikes a certain emotional chord with him. Maybe he saw this bird while feeding the others, maybe a bird flew into his office, or maybe he kept thinking of the 'perfect aviary companion'. Either way, being insane, he falls in love with this bird, devoting a great deal of time and thought into this bird, willing to see her once again. The bird starts to 'appear' when he calls for her. Eventually, the bird appears real due to him devoting so much thought into it, even going so far as to establish a 'mental link' with the bird, and convincing himself it's the bird 'talking' to him. Do I believe Tesla had a tulpa? No. Do I believe Tesla did not have a tulpa? Again, no. I remain neutral in everything until I see something concrete to sway my thoughts to one side. Frankly, the only way that we are going to know for sure is to observe Tesla to see if he nurtures air back to health. Let's focus on the matter at hand, shall we?

Now, what exactly are the steps to creating a tulpa? 1: Treat as sentient 2: Narrate a fuckton I don't think the average writer does either of these things to a great extent. The same ones, with the only difference being that you treat the tulpa as a person from the get go. See above; the difference is big. This is what leads me to believe that a writer could, to some capacity, create a tulpa out of their character. Of course it is far from unprecedented. It is, however, not inevitable from simple character creation and usage. Secondly, also never implied that thinking of a loved one created a tulpa of them. What you're describing is Tesla spending a lot of time thinking about someone/thing he loved.
SilverRevlis December 6, 2012 December 6, 2012 Alright, I see you and I use different methods for forcing. Your views make much more sense to me now. You see, being a fiction writer for a time, I grew into the above mentioned fashion of creating characters. Now, I used a method of forcing similar to 'character creation', meaning that I had to use personality traits, visualization, etc. I didn't merely treat Alice as sentient and narrate. I crafted as much as I could about her. Using this method, by the second day she was vocal, so you can see how from my viewpoint it seems more likely that these manners of accidental tulpa creation is quite possible. But alas, you and I have had different personal experiences, and let's face the facts, that will lead us to babble about who is right until our hands fade to dust. However, if I may advise, spend some time doing research into the various ways that tulpa's can be formed. Some of this might seem less unlikely afterwards. Let's focus on the matter at hand, shall we?
