biblioman December 14, 2012 December 14, 2012 Hi guys, an newbie to tulpamancing here (what a shock!) with many questions. Necessary background: I go to a very small private school and I have bipolar disorder, ADD, (mild) OCD, and (mild, undiagnosed) paranoia - though the last seems to be mostly gone. 1. For those on you on the IRC a few days ago, you may remember this, but I'll ask the rest of you: my school requires a big project every year. This is already kinda set in stone, but if any major objections are raised, I'll reassess: tulpa for a school project? Good or bad? My primary problem is along ethical lines - how would your tulpa feel? This DEFINITELY is not my only motivation, in fact, it probably doesn't make the Top 3; the companionship, understanding, and responsibility are others too. 2. I'm on antipsychotic medicines (I'm NOT here to discuss the merits, just the effects) - Abilify (for bipolar), Clonidine (for paranoia), and Strattera (for ADD), if it matters - and was wondering: do you think these would these have any negative effects regarding tulpaforcing? Also, would these affect possession or imposition at all? 3. My mother, who knows about tulpae and likes the ideology (primary because of the meditation angle), has EEG equipment, would anyone have experiments we could try with that? I can't have more than 2-5 experiments, but still... 4. How did you go about the personality creation phase? Or did you? Is that outdated? Commonly, I see the personality sheet, but is that good? Sorry for all the questions; any help is appreciated greatly! -biblioman Disclaimer: I don't mean to offend anyone, tulpa or host, by anything I post. waffles December 14, 2012 December 14, 2012 1. I wouldn't advise it for one reason, though it's not major: -Chances are that what you think having a tulpa is like is not what having a tulpa is like. I think that it's difficult to understand it unless you've made a tulpa. If you did the same project a year later, you'd probably write something completely different. 2. Unlikely. That said, I don't know a huge amount about antipsychotics, so perhaps someone with more knowledge could answer this more thoroughly. 3. If you can participate in experiments - which presumably you can't right now, not having a tulpa - then you should make a thread in research about it later. If you're offering equipment for others, then it still should go in research. 4. Many people choose not to do personality. I did; I spent about 20 minutes on each trait - 13 or so in total - going through FAQ_man's template - which you seem to have found. To be honest, you don't need to do that much, or any at all. The point is to get an idea of what your tulpa is going to be like into your head, so if you already have that then there isn't a burning need. Likewise, if you want to be surprised, or leave it down to your tulpa, then don't do personality.
biblioman December 14, 2012 Author December 14, 2012 Thanks waffles! 1. Well, the project is already worked out with my teachers, so oh well. 2. Thanks - I was a bit worried, but that was reassuring. 3. I'm participating, and yeah I will, but that'll be months from now. 4. Thanks again - I think I'll come up with the basics, but leave the rest to her. Thanks again, biblioman Disclaimer: I don't mean to offend anyone, tulpa or host, by anything I post. Koji December 14, 2012 December 14, 2012 1. Making a tulpa for a school project would not be the best of ideas, for multiple reasons. For one, no one would be able to see it except for you, and it's possible that you would be considered crazy. Secondly, the tulpa would resent being created for the sole purpose of a school project. A better idea for the project would be to write an essay on tulpas, and perhaps make one to help you along the way. 2. Probably only the Strattera, but not noticeably. 3. Just measuring your brain activity with and without tulpas would be fascinating, even more so with the advanced stages. So perhaps just your tulpa talking to you, you seeing your tulpa, etc. 4. I went about it by narrating each trait into them, the general "you are x, you do y when z." But do whatever works best for you, whether it be working for ten hours on it, or not at all. Good luck, and happy tulpaforcing! http://tulpa.info/forums/Thread-Koji-and-Catelyn-Of-Deserts-and-Snowmen
waffles December 14, 2012 December 14, 2012 Oh, yes, that's an excellent point. biblioman, if you're going to use an EEG for experiments later, then take some readings now. What you do would be much more valuable if you have pre-tulpa data to compare with.
biblioman December 14, 2012 Author December 14, 2012 Thanks Koji! 1. Well, my school already knows I'm crazy; also, the project is NOT the only reason: This DEFINITELY is not my only motivation, in fact, it probably doesn't make the Top 3; the companionship, understanding, and responsibility are others too. But yeah, that's similar to what I was planning; also, MAYBE a possession demonstration to show that I'm not too terribly crazy. 2. Thanks! Again, that settled my nerves pretty well. 3. Planning on doing that; I'm going in for a pre-anything (I'm not forcing yet) on Sunday. 4. Thanks! Again, I think I'll just come up with a simple outline and then leave the rest to her. Again, thanks both of you! -biblioman Disclaimer: I don't mean to offend anyone, tulpa or host, by anything I post. Tulpa: Settled on Aleana; means "rising, ascending" in Hebrew. motorheadlk December 14, 2012 December 14, 2012 1. I would say, not for any ethical or moral reasons, not to do it. That could be misunderstood as a lack of project, since unless you're able to achieve possession and do neat things with your tulpa, like writing with both hands, it's going to look like you don't have a project at all and that you're roleplaying. Edit: Also, it's terrible to work within a deadline, you're not supposed to expect progress and to count the time you take while you tulpaforce. In any case, have a plan B for your project. What I know is that Seroquel has bad effects, that include the temporary dissipation of a tulpa, the host not being able to see, hear or do anything with the tulpa. I'd say that they could mean harm (to your tulpaforcing, not your tulpa), but again, that's only a supposition, try searching about which neurotransmissor/receptor is affect by Seroquel and see if the same is valid for the other, if it's not, likely these meds won't affect your tulpaforcing. 3. My mother, who knows about tulpae and likes the ideology (primary because of the meditation angle), has EEG equipment, would anyone have experiments we could try with that? I can't have more than 2-5 experiments, but still... Now, that's interesting. Yes, go into this thread and read it from the page 4 forward. http://tulpa.info/forums/Thread-Proof-of-Tulpae?page=4 That will give you ideas about what to do with this equipment. 4. How did you go about the personality creation phase? Or did you? Is that outdated? Commonly, I see the personality sheet, but is that good? Don't expect your tulpae to be exactly the way you try to make her, the personality methods are all fine, in fact, not doing any personality and doing only narration would give you a tulpa too. Sorry for all the questions; any help is appreciated greatly! -biblioman No worries, most of this questions weren't answered in most places, so I don't mind answering this kind of thing. Scott Z December 14, 2012 December 14, 2012 I am new here myself who has not yet created a tulpa, but I will offer my outsider's view and encouragement. #1 Regarding the school project & ethics: Is this project for a science, composition, or other type of class? I would not have recommended it either because results are tricky to document and impossible to demonstrate, especially if this is a science project. Since your teacher has already cleared it, give this a shot. You can carefully document the time you invest in creation, keep a log of developing traits, and add a lot of scholastic research about the Eastern history of the practice. The EEG data if any is found would be a bonus. I would like to see this paper when you are done. The ethics are only a consideration if you consider it to be an ethical problem. Your tulpa will probably feel the same way about it as you (not a certainty but the most likely scenario). I would go ahead with it and risk the rebellious teenage 'I didn't ask to be born' phase. my thoughtform = Isis her appearance = stylized rabbit with dark fur and glowing eyes her developmental stage = imaginary friend
waffles December 14, 2012 December 14, 2012 Your tulpa will probably feel the same way about it as you (not a certainty but the most likely scenario) You're completely wrong. When it comes to their own existence, tulpas have a tendency to have wildly differing opinions.
Scott Z December 14, 2012 December 14, 2012 #2 Regarding the conditions and medication: There has not actually been much research done regarding these questions. Read some more threads regarding medications in the Research section (as already suggested). The practice of tulpa creation should be beneficial for you regarding the ADD (very likely) and maybe also the bi-polar (long shot but it can't hurt). The brain is not a muscle which grows stronger with repeated usage, but it does act a lot like a muscle. Neural connections are formed by every brain activity, so tasks become easier and more successful as you practice them. Tasks include focusing, so your self-control will only improve during exercises like meditation and tulpa creation. That said, I know some bi-polar people, and they tend to unconsciously make choices which set themselves up for failures later. The fact that you are actually taking your medications is encouraging. Don't allow your tulpa creation project to be an excuse to screw yourself; you owe that much to yourself and your tulpa. You're completely wrong. When it comes to their own existence, tulpas have a tendency to have wildly differing opinions. Okay, I will defer to your experience. #3 Regarding your mother and the EEG machine: I am going to agree with your mother on this issue. She knows you and your situation a lot better than me, and she thinks that this project is a good idea. She is probably right about the mediation aspects of the process being good for you. The EEG machine came up in its own thread a week or two ago. Some very knowledgable members posted there about these machines. I strongly suggest your search for that thread and post there. #4 Regarding personality creation: I asked a similar question several days ago. My question was about choosing personality traits, whereas you seem to be asking about ways to act upon those choices. The consesus answer that I received is that it does not matter because the tulpa is capable of changing its own form and characteristics as it wishes. Similarly, any method you opt to use for personality crafting (or no method as is suggested by others above) should be okay because the tulpa itself will be able to make changes later. my thoughtform = Isis her appearance = stylized rabbit with dark fur and glowing eyes her developmental stage = imaginary friend
