Guest Albatross_ June 6, 2012 June 6, 2012 Well, I personally believe that humanity was brought to Earth by Carl Sagan in a spacecraft with a Sans DC-8 jet engine.
Avalanche June 6, 2012 June 6, 2012 I well thought out question. Here is the answer you will receive from either guard: "What guard?" I know it's late but... It's impossible now, if the guards don't know of each other. frt
Phi June 6, 2012 June 6, 2012 I know it's late but... It's impossible now, if the guards don't know of each other. No, it's still possible. I can promise you that much; I have the answer.
Avalanche June 6, 2012 June 6, 2012 Bullshit- The guards don't know of each other. The guards don't know which door is which. The guards are standing in front of either door. Either guard could be good/evil. So you have literally no way of knowing what is behind what door if no one knows. You can't find out which guard is in front of which door, and you can't find out which guard is which, according to your rules. I seriously think that you will give the answer and it will go against one of your rules. Yes I mad. frt

Avalanche June 6, 2012 June 6, 2012 Then my answer still stands. Ask the guard about what the other guard has to say about his door. The opposite is true for whatever they say. frt
Phi June 6, 2012 June 6, 2012 Then my answer still stands. Ask the guard about what the other guard has to say about his door. The opposite is true for whatever they say. Asking a guard about the other guard yields the answer, "what guard?"
Avalanche June 6, 2012 June 6, 2012 But that defeats the riddle. I know the old riddle where it was simpler, you just asked one guard about what you already know. Then you added that they could be in front of either door. And now they don't know about each other. That makes the riddle impossible. The older version of the riddle only had one answer, adding more rules doesn't work. The answer is either going to go against one of your many new rules, or it's just going to be "hurr there are signs on the doors saying which is which." frt
Guest Albatross_ June 6, 2012 June 6, 2012 Ask one of the guards, "Are you going to answer this question with no if everything you say is true?" Then if the guard's head explodes you know he is the guard who answers truthfully. That is the exploding-head case. Puzzle solved.
Avalanche June 6, 2012 June 6, 2012 Way to wikipedia Albatross_. Also I'm fairly sure the head exploding case is ruled out of the riddle. If it isn't then this was a big waste of time. The answer might as well be the hold the guards at gunpoint and make them open both doors at the same time. Or bore a hole in a door and peek in without opening it. frt
