Guest May 15, 2012 May 15, 2012 If you do believe your consciousness would continue after your local death, depending on what philosophy of mind happens to be true, a tulpa would just continue existing together with you, but the probability of that being the case is unclear and is theory dependent. The really tricky part is what constitutes "you" and "the tulpa". If "you" being "you" would require most of your brain's functional structure being preserved, then a tulpa would continue along with you, but if you can suffer a lot of amnesia and still be able to consider yourself "you", then, it might be possible for you to be separated from your tulpa and for your tulpa to be separated from you: what if there could be sufficient changes to the brain for the tulpa's awareness to continue without your own? I'm mostly treating a tulpa here as an process in the brain, thus it seems plausible that there could be possible worlds out there where a person's identity gets destroyed, but the tulpa still remains. What are the chances of any of this happening? I don't know, it seems so utterly complex to even begin trying to quantify any of this and the results would be different depending on the theory used and finding out which is right is difficult as most are unfalsifiable to the point of being closer to philosophy than science, but given sufficient computing resources some of these questions may be answerable, not that it's likely for there to ever be sufficient resources to ever compute anything like that from within our universe. Another interesting idea that might be worth considering is: what if another person manages to create a tulpa with the exact same characteristics as the ones you chose for your tulpa, but without your own memories. Would that be a possible future (with amnesia) for your tulpa? This might be highly improbable in a single universe scenario, but in a multiverse, it becomes a lot more likely. Missed a small part from the previous post: If you don't believe your consciousness would continue after your death, then the tulpa die along with you. I don't know much about the religion you're referencing to be able to answer that particular question.

But I don't really believe in mine, its just what I want to happen the most after death. Helps me sleep at night.
Guest May 15, 2012 May 15, 2012 dothinkthisisamotherfuckinggame.jpg That's my waifu you're talking about! Also I'd like to think everything has some sort of "soul". I know how you feel bro, I'm making my waifu too. If you want to imagine what her life would be like after you die, think of Yuuko-san from Tasogare Otome X Amnesia. She spent 60 years without being seen by anyone, except that some people would see her deformed and monstrous, and others COULD see her but ignored her. Think of that, except your waifu will all together not be seen, heard, or otherwise observed for the rest of forever after you die. Now, I don't know who your waifu is, thus I don't know her personality, but I would assume that your waifu would prefer to go with you rather than be trapped for eternity after.
Semi-Nomadic May 20, 2012 May 20, 2012 I'm being a bit late here, but here's a snippet from the IRC from a few days ago... Emphasis mine. [07:50] <+Devano> There is a small project going on right now where a few of us with tulpas or in the process of creating tulpas are learning to astral project. In a spiritual sense it seperates the mind from the body and you are able to float around in this energy in a sort of ethereal world. There are reported experiences of people who astral project meeting other people who are currently in the state of astral projection. A few of us are wanti [07:52] <+Biotech> Devano, I was talking to my cousin the other day about off stuff that has happened to him [07:52] <+Biotech> and he brought up my nan' [07:52] <+Biotech> and how she did a reading on him once [07:52] <+Devano> nan? [07:52] <+Biotech> Grandma or whatever [07:53] <+Biotech> okay, so said to him "oh, you knew someone called... Robo... Robo *other name here* [07:53] <+Biotech> and then went on and perfectly described him, even to how he smiled [07:53] <+Biotech> yeah, blew him away [07:54] <+Biotech> anyway, she is into all that stuff [07:54] <+Biotech> and the other day I got a call from her [07:54] <+Biotech> and she was going on about how she can suddenly feel the presence of a "young spirit" hanging around me [07:55] <+Devano> Wicked. [07:55] <+Biotech> I'm not a big believer of that stuff at all, but I'll see if she can get any results when I go visit her. A voice in the "do tulpae have souls?" debate.

If something like that ever happens to me I think my brain would explode. I want to find someone with proclaimed 'psychic' abilities and see if they pick up on anything.
