I was stuck on what gender to make my tulpa for a while, and I'm just wondering if anyone what other people's thoughts were when choosing that.

After a long period of flipflopping I eventually decided to take the road less traveled and make mine agender/gender-neutral. My reasons being that they're being molded after an animal so gender's not as huge of a deal, and I find non-binary gender identities rather interesting.

What are your reason(s) for your tulpa's gender?

One of my reasons behind making a tulpa is for a companion, so I'm making mine female. Also, I believe that if you are male, your tulpa will be heavily influenced by your anima, which is a female (if your female, then it would be heavily influenced by your animus, which is a male). It would make more sense for your tulpa, then, to be the opposite gender that you are.

Adding on this post, I also believe that making a tulpa of yourself is an awful idea, as it may lead to your tulpa being a representation of your shadow

Making one of a similar gender is for a more comfortable setting.

Making one of the opposite gender makes for a more mmmm I dunno setting but it seems natural to me.

I'm basing mine of a character from a show. As you probably know, it's Vinyl Scratch. She is a female, but rule 63 (gender swapping exists). Since animals are social things, the gender decides how it acts (example, females take care of the kids while the males hunt.). If you eliminate all other animals, or at least make the interactions one way, it will conform to a non gender attitude, with the negatives and positives of the differentiating personalities neutralizing eachother, leaving you to decide who it will be.

That's me guessing.

This is an example of R63: http://th08.deviantart.net/fs71/PRE/i/2011/267/6/3/dj_c0l_4_by_willdrawforfood1-d4asill.png

I struggled on this myself for about a month, haha. I ended up just deciding to forget about gender too. I mean, it's kind of completely irrelevant when you think about it.

Unless you're planning on a form where the gender is pivotal, like a human or something. Suppose that's entirely different.

I decided to make Clair female just because I liked the character design of the female ponies in MLP, and the fact that I just really wanted a female pony around for some reason, and I decided upon that very quickly. All in all, gender doesn't matter much and it should conform to the personality (or not, up to you) rather than the personality conforming to the gender.

But in reality, personality does conform to gender. You should know what gender your tulpa will be before working on personality.

I would never want personality conforming to something as superficial (for a tulpa at least) as gender, though. I see it as part of their form, and thus something that should conform to personality. Though really, a large amount if not all personality traits could go to either gender, making it all up to personal taste.

I get what you're saying, though. Sadly, environment dictates a lot. In the real, everyone is swayed into abiding to norms. Parents will give their daughters dolls and skirts, for example. However, since we're speaking about tulpa then you ARE the environment (unless you're basing it off a pre-existing character, where they would have an environment in their show/game/etc). HOWEVER, gender roles are not solely up to environment, though environment has a lot to do with it. In a study where both girls and boys were put into a room with both guns and dolls and given no instruction, almost all of the girls ended up playing with the dolls and almost all the boys ended up playing with the guns. It seems that, although environment does play a huge role, there are some factors which have biologically predisposition.

Still, this is for real people. Tulpa are not real, so do what you want. I'm just trying to make a point for people who want their tulpa to be as human as possible. Actually, as a side note to being as human as possible, some things to think of during personality are the give big psychological traits (O.C.E.A.N.) and temperament.

A girl because mental genderbending! Kinda weird to program part of your brain to act female, no? Kinda cool idea actually.

Truly I first decided upon a female tulpa form because I was going to base it off of an existing pony in MLP to create a waifu like I'm sure many others were.

Now my reasoning is that I shall make a female tulpa for moe, which does not exist in the male form (for me anyway).
