Can the PM limit be removed?

I'm getting close to the PM limit again, and I don't really want to delete any of them. They don't seem like they take up very much space, could the limit be removed or set rediculously high?

 

 

I'm aware there's an export thing if need be to satisfy my archival wants if you can't/won't do this, and if so is there any way to mass delete all read messages after that?

Yes, there is an option in the archiving process which asks you if you want to delete the archived messages.
