Nageki December 21, 2015 December 21, 2015 I do understand that, but there's still that knee-jerk reaction you get from hearing the term "forcing" that I hate lol. Like, "Damn, I'm forcing the tulpa to do stuff." Or am I the only one that automatically thinks that...? And re:tulpamancy, I think the reason I attach such a negative connotation to it is because I relate it way too heavily to necromancy. It was my first reaction to hearing about tulpamancy and it just sort of... stuck. Sharu (host) || Arro (tulpa)
Guest Anonymous December 21, 2015 December 21, 2015 Tulpamancy sounds like necromancy, but that makes it sound dark and mysterious, and therefore kinda cool.
Luminesce December 21, 2015 December 21, 2015 I'm pretty sure -mancy means divining or something, but it's moreso known as manipulation of elements I think. Necromancy, pyromancy, technomancy. It all implies magic I suppose, though divination is "The apparent art of discovering secrets or the future by preternatural means." So tulpamancy is the art of discovering the "secrets" of tulpas, how they work and how to make them and such. Maybe.. It can serve to remind us that tulpas are not science. We use plenty of logic and shy away from the metaphysical, but that doesn't mean it's scientific. Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn. Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature. My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.
Guest Anonymous December 21, 2015 December 21, 2015 Who cares what it means? Sheesh. It sounds impressive and, really, that is all that should matter. Hee hee
Lacquer December 21, 2015 Author December 21, 2015 Tulpamancy sounds like necromancy, but that makes it sound dark and mysterious, and therefore kinda cool. Sounding dark, mysterious, and cool is a bad thing.
Guest Anonymous December 22, 2015 December 22, 2015 Totally disagree. You stick in the mud you. :-) Dark and mysterious is sexy and awesomsauce groovy. Noun[edit] stick in the mud (plural sticks in the mud or stick in the muds) (idiomatic, pejorative) A person unwilling to participate in activities; a curmudgeon or party pooper. Have a little fun sometimes and don't be such a stick-in-the-mud. (idiomatic, pejorative) More generally, one who is slow, old-fashioned, or unprogressive; an old fogey.
Guest Anonymous December 22, 2015 December 22, 2015 Well, having a term that is meant to properly and at least decently professionally define a thing, activity, field of science or something else... ... and then having it be either dark, mysterious, cool or edgy, or any combination of those - I can see how that's not exactly good. Were I to use the word "tulpamancy" while explaining to someone that Rina exists, the chances of them NOT going "... are you a retard?" would surely sink considerably. I don't like the word either. It sounds like something related to magic. Which is incorrect. Yep! Exactly what I said on page two as well. ^^ Greets, AG & Rina
Guest Anonymous December 22, 2015 December 22, 2015 You could use the term "auto-sequence cerebral visualization" and people would still think it was retarded and weird. The name you call it won't make it more or less impressive to anyone. It is still super realistic imaginary friends no matter how you label folks. So it might as well have a dark and mysterious, cool sounding name.

People get influenced through names like this, even though it doesn't change anything about the subject itself. If you call it "auto-sequence cerebral visualization" people will feel different about it, even though it doesn't make any sense to think different about the subject.
