Paranoid Llama December 16, 2015 December 16, 2015 I won't even bother reading these walls of texts. Tulpas are living thoughtforms with an illusory and perceived sentience able to act on its own. Or, it could just be a separate personality able to communicate with the host. I'm not going to listen to you guys since you are all probably just talking to yourself and don't really have a tulpa like me.
waffles December 16, 2015 December 16, 2015 Jesus fucking text wall. You could've just said it depends on the host. Nobody can summarize it as a whole, but I merely define it as sentience and the understanding of themself. "I think, therefore I am." Alright edit edition. No that's unrelated to what I said. I "could have" said that, I guess. I could have said, "I'm not going to answer your question". About the same, really. I know I wrote a long bit of text, that's why I summarised it at the bottom. That said, if you'd read the post you'd know why "define it as sentience" isn't really cutting it - because "sentience" is another unobservable along with "is_tulpa", and you end up needing criteria for something to be sentient. I mean, I'm trying to summarise it in a reasonable way. It's not obvious to me that no-one can do that, at least beyond the detail I went into already. The self-awareness thing - I guess? That's kinda like what I said with "intelligence" and that stuff, practicalities aside. But then, it's not "merely". It's a nontrivial assertion. To anyone who didn't read the post: The longpost is there for a reason though. I know you didn't read the post, but god damn it, you should read the post. It's not a "textwall", it has paragraphs and high-level structure. I could make it easier to read, but not much easier, so it's your own laziness rather than mine. You know, they write whole books that are full of words. How would you manage if you had to read one of those?
Guest Anonymous December 16, 2015 December 16, 2015 Yeah, what waffles said. And also: Is the Tulpa Info "scientific discussion forum" to be reduced to simple single sentences, short paragraphs and quick catch phrases and "it's all in the guides? If you (this is not addressing any particular person, that is a general "you") ... if you read the text walls you might find some stuff in there you have not considered before. As far as my own writing goes, quite frankly, I am getting tired of getting "everyone already knows this, read the guides" and "this is a rambling blog." No. I put thought into my writing, even if I am not always the most articulate in what I am trying to say. This stuff inspires me and I learn things from the likes of sushi, NoneFromHell, waffles, Luminesce and Linkzelda. Because they read what I write and think about what I am saying. Then they chop it to pieces and then feed it back to me, instead of dismissing it as useless walls of text. Thank you very much have a nice day. Sorry this was a lot for you to read. :-) BTW, If you want succinct simple sentences here is one: Tulpas are talkative, persistent, thoughtforms with personality.
Luminesce December 16, 2015 December 16, 2015 >Actual activity and discussion on a core topic of the forum >no one reads the "textwalls" GG. I read the text, guys. I know of these things called "books". Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn. Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature. My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.
Brassow December 16, 2015 December 16, 2015 Anything with large amounts of words that cover a lot of space is what I refer to as a text wall. Waffles' first post sure fit that description. Also, lumi, we can just read manga lmao. Tulpas have sentience and can think on their own accord separately from the host. A servitor, wonderland NPC, or imaginary friend can't do that, so I still stand by what I said, Waffles. "Try to get a better understanding of things before making your judgement." -Khan, Metro 2033
Guest Anonymous December 16, 2015 December 16, 2015 Persistence. I learned about the tulpa trait of persistence. I don't remember seeing it in the guides, it was in the waffles textwall. :-) It's little gems like that I am looking for from all of this. Waffles, if you are at all curious, here is a link to a DA post of Melian describing herself as persistent from January 29th 2015. Well it was short, if the link doesn't work here is the text in total: "Persistent I have decided that a good word that describe me is persistent. I drive you guys crazy and you avoid my journals because I am so persistent. Every day persistent. I never go away. Hee hee I am a persistent day dream. Did I tell you that I am persistent? My next word: repetitive"

Admittedly, it's about right anyway, so it's not fair to say that you're wrong. But like I explained they don't help you tell from the outside, not exactly. Like wonderland characters. You're just going to suppose that they're non-sentient because they're wonderland characters. I guess. Besides, it may sound pedantic but it's often worth a bit of epistemology before you start doing things. Just so you know what you're doing. You say you have your simple definition but people seem to run into problems with the whole thing anyway. I don't know if it's misguided but I can't help but feel like one of the big reasons people struggle with "definitions" is that they don't know what definitions are or what they're supposed to be doing (in this case).
Vaugard December 16, 2015 December 16, 2015 I'd say sentience and self control. Proof that the tulpa is its own being, like autonomous movement or speech that is beyond your control. To me, that's the defining line between an imaginary being and a tulpa. I'm not sure how to feel about form though. Does something need a form to be called an entity? "Welcome to my house! Come freely. Go safely. And leave something of the happiness you bring!" -Dracula My tulpa's name is Vladimira. She goes by Mira.
