Joss February 15, 2016 February 15, 2016 I have to disagree with you on the martial arts and swordsmanship thing, AGGuy. While it's true that wonderland knowledge and talents can transfer over a bit, it's not quite the same thing to actually use the body for it, because theoretical knowledge differs from experiential knowledge. Here are some examples of things that transfer over... kind of: Temar is left-handed while our host is a righty. When he's switched out, he's more prone to using his left hand for things like picking up things, opening doors, that sort of thing. However, he cannot write with that hand, because the body does not have the muscle memory to successfully do that. One of his projects he sometimes does while switched in is to learn how to write with the body'a left hand. Meila's an expert archer. Our host has weekly archery practice, and sometimes Meila switches in to participate. While it's true that she's sometimes better at it than our host, that can merely be attributed to Meila's natural ability to focus, rather than any physical skill. Again, the person switched in has the theoretical knowledge, but the body does not. I'm a war tactician myself, much like Esterina. In my world, I've learned how to run an army, how to delegate, how to get funding and supplies, how to move my forces for greatest effect, and a number of other things related to running a war. However, these wars happened in a fictional world where my host controlled all other factors. Therefore, despite the fact that I feel I've earned that knowledge, I would not claim to know a thing about how to run a war in this world. Though I will agree that this does make me better at strategy games and the like. I'm more ruthless, so even though my host and I are both using the same pool of knowledge and memories, I'm more prone to using what I know against my enemi... erm... opponents, and laying out strategies against them in return. It all comes down to theoretical knowledge versus experiential knowledge... your headmate knowing something in theory does not mean she can actually do it in practice outside the wonderland. No offense meant to Esterina or anything; it's just a fact of life being what we are. I had to learn that the hard way myself. But perhaps you two are the anomaly there. You're unique in a number of ways, so perhaps this is one. We won't know unless you guys figure out switching. ~ Member of SparrowNR's System ~
Luminesce February 15, 2016 February 15, 2016 @Joss You don't get the difference. I can't create a character in a story that knows something I don't know, yes. But I, the guy who created the fictional Esterina, actually do have knowledge of the theory of swordsmanship and martial arts, seeing as how I trained in both for a long time, and I "gave" the fictional Esterina that knowledge. Difference being that she can actually use that knowledge effectively ... She doesn't know more about it than me, but contrary to me, she could most likely use that same knowledge with great efficiency - like her fictional counterpart, and unlike me. (Still leaves her stuck with this not-very-muscular and ill body, tho.) Your point about left-handedness was pretty good, but you're arguing a moot point. Ah well. Tewi can do everything I can do better, as far as "practical" things go. So excluding silly stuff like "being a better friend" or whatever. Because she just literally has more control over the mind than I do. It's not something to take lightly, either. We're legitimately working together to figure out how to enable me to do the same things, because I desperately need it. For personal reasons this is actually a pretty serious matter, and as this is all her while switched (not theoretically), I put a lot of value in it. Hi! I'm Lumi, host of Reisen, Tewi, Flandre and Lucilyn. Everyone deserves to love and be loved. It's human nature. My tulpas and I have a Q&A thread, which was the first (and largest) of its kind. Feel free to ask us about tulpamancy stuff there.
Joss February 15, 2016 February 15, 2016 Lumi, I pretty much agree with both of you on that. When it's about something about how the knowledge is used, then, yes. Headmates can be better at that. See my point about Meila being better than the host at focusing, or my own skill with strategy. However, the point is that the entire system uses the same pool of experiential knowledge. So physical skills such as martial arts, left-handedness, knitting, and how to do a backflip do not necessarily transfer. Not without practice, in any case. ~ Member of SparrowNR's System ~
Guest Anonymous February 15, 2016 February 15, 2016 Oh, and I don't know how valid of a mention this is... but Rina also has no problems lucid dreaming. But yeah, dunno how valid it is to say that seeing as how she never actually sleeps in the classical sense, but simply comes to my dreams when I sleep. So yeah, that. That's easy for her. And as I found out, she has some pretty huge degree of control over my dreaming. Seriously. It's described in more detail in our latest PR post, but even when I'm lucid, she can still stop whatever it is that's happening or that I'm doing on a whim, it seems. So that too. But again, dunno if that really belongs in this specific thread as an example. Greets, AG
Pioneer11 February 15, 2016 February 15, 2016 My Tulpa is much more skilled than me at assessing people’s personalities and the motives behind their actions. He would be a good politician (or at least an effective one). He is also more cunning than I am and plans and plots ahead. A silly example: he is always prepared on our studies or my schedule for the day while I’m an impulsive ditz most of the time. He also has a much better memory than I since he has direct access to my subconscious; thanks to this, he thinks much faster and more clearly than me. This is one of the reasons for which he as assumed the role of a teacher during lucid dreaming. Sometimes is like talking to a living computer that knows me better than I do. He is also better at music. I’m studying piano and he would practice in the Wonderland, applying the rules we read so he can really learn to play it; he then would correct my technique or remind me the notes to play in the outside world. He also composes music: in our Wonderland he sometimes will create a changing scenery with music in it, think of Disney’s Fantasia. It’s a way to express his emotions; in fact, he enjoys communicating with me through images and sounds. I however can't compose at all. “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” [progress report]
