Okay so whenever I try to calm down to force. My heartbeat speeds up and gets loud. Coupled with my slight paranoia caused by burglars breaking into my house last year, you can imagine what that sounds like. Anyone know how I can slow myheartbeat and calm it down?

Some factors like air temperature, your position, medication, stress, and how much exercise you get will affect your resting heart rate. I'd recommend making your environment as relaxation-friendly as possible, putting on soothing music, and resting in a comfortable position.

Deep slow breathing. Imagine the ocean or some sort of calming scenery. Don't drink caffeine before forcing. Lay off those monster drinks.

Sounds like a classic anxiety based reaction to me.

I've found that when I try to force deep breathing, especially with counting my in and out breaths, my heart speeds and and panic symptoms start because I feel I'm not getting enough air.

With breathing you want to feel it more in your belly than your chest. Let your diaphragm do the breathing not the rib cage.

Also do what you can to make your environment feel safe. For me that involves a wall at my back and lots of blankets and plushies. You do what makes your environment feel most safe and comforting to you, and it should help relax and calm your body down.

Breathing exercises, EFT tapping (instructions for both can be found from google) and just holding my breath and crouching for a while have helped me to slow my heartbeat down in anxiety-related situations.
