How many here use email notifications?

My email server report came back today and I noticed 23,000 emails for info went out in the last 7 days. I was trying to get an idea of why, so I checked the server error log and realized that a great deal of people l subscribe to lotpw. That means each reply sounds several dozen emails. I’m not sure what other words are being subscribe to since I cannot view emails sent, just failed emails sent And one such failure occurred on the 15th showing at least 40 failed lotpw subscription email  notifications.

 

I am also wondering if alternatives might be found for fast topics like LOTPW (or just lotpw) But if people are leveraging them a lot, I don’t wanna break anything for those people.

 

i’m not saying that following a topic is bad, I use it often and obviously the mail server can handle it but I’m Interested in hearing in what the community is doing and how your leveraging email stuff.

Messenger and moderation are the only ones emailed for me currently. The rest are in-website notification bell procs.

we don't and we don't get LOTPW emails either

 

the problem is the forum software automatically subscribed tons of people to tons of topics after the migration (or maybe before it?), we noticed a handful of people came back around forum migration time because they got emailed about a thread they posted in a long time ago

 

opt-in emails should still work fine but the auto-subscribing it did was kinda problematic I think..

I generally dislike email notifications, so the only active ones are Newsletter, Messenger and Event Reminders.

Okay, I changed the defaults so the notifications when following a topic don't email you (you can set it to email you if you wanted to) and reset notification preferences to default.  If you like getting emails on topic replies, please feel free to change it back.  This will also un-auto-subscribe everyone pre-migration.

This still didn't solve the issue, so I unfollowed everyone from LOTPWs....  Please re-follow the topic if you need to (it was still sending out several dozen emails per reply).
