Twayblade September 9, 2012 September 9, 2012 I am relatively new to the whole idea of tulpae, but I have been browsing the forums for over two weeks. I guess this feels a lot like another one of my daydreams - too good to be true. I'm trying to narrate, but I want your advice on what else I can do to convince myself this is real. The weird thing is I believe it'll work if I believe. So I just have to get rid of my doubt... I am willing to spend a long time on this step, building real belief. What are your suggestions?
Lolimancer September 9, 2012 September 9, 2012 Building real belief can be pretty hard without actual experience in the matter of what you try to believe in i think. Maybe try to rationally convince yourself it's true, if you think you can build a belief system from stuff you already believe in (i did this). Maybe do self-hypnosis. Maybe just go on without worrying about having actual belief, and wait till the day your tulpa will show you something you can take for a sign of sentience (this is partly what i ended up doing, as well) - just try not to be an asshole about it, which means you'll have to be open to all signals and stuff, otherwise your tulpa will end up hating you over it. Maybe read some of the tulpa surveys.
Chupi September 9, 2012 September 9, 2012 This is something that varies a lot from person to person. I can't say what will work for you because I don't know how your mind works. I know that my own mind responds well to logic. If I can give it a (seemingly) watertight logical explanation that something is a given way, that soon becomes a belief. The exception is if it conflicts with something even more deeply rooted, in which case I know the explanation to be false even if I can't immediately see the hole in the logic. For instance, when I first encountered the supposed proof that 0 = 1, I knew it was obviously false and no amount of looking at it could make me believe it, even before I saw the flaw in it. I've been on this since April and only recently managed to get rid of most of the doubts. (Note that many of my doubts were set in pretty deep from following FAQ_Man's anti-parroting advice for so long. Thankfully you don't have to deal with that mess.) What finally worked as a mix of a few attempts to logic myself out of it: I've been doubting origins of responses so long and gotten very little out of it; this is clearly not working, need to try something else.Anything other than accepting ALL apparent responses will only lead back to full-blown parroting paranoia, as I have seen a number of times. While the result is a full separate consciousness, the process for creating it is essentially a fantasy that will become as real as I let it. I'm training a part of my brain to run this separate consciousness, and I need to believe it can, will, and does exist in order for it to work.A young tulpa will use the easiest means to reach you at first, and this is often through thoughts that feel like you're doing them. Accepting these as being from the tulpa encourages her and helps her grow strong enough to try other more distinct means of communicating. TulpaCouple September 9, 2012 September 9, 2012 Baby steps help. As you go you will notice your tulpa do things--causing or removing headaches, little emotional responses, things like that help you really believe in your progress.
Bin September 9, 2012 September 9, 2012 As Chupi said, it's easier to do something when you know how it works. Try reading this. no
Twayblade September 9, 2012 Author September 9, 2012 Okay. So try to rationalize, if that doesn't work try to accept it, don't worry, and just be patient. Do you think it'll work to just narrate (and visualize) until I feel more convinced? Is there something else I should be doing? As Chupi said, it's easier to do something when you know how it works. Try reading this. Ah yes, I read that, thank you. I think I understand. It will help me accept, I hope.
Phi September 9, 2012 September 9, 2012 What are your philosophical beliefs when it comes to reality?
Guest Anonymous September 10, 2012 September 10, 2012 Okay. So try to rationalize, if that doesn't work try to accept it, don't worry, and just be patient. Do you think it'll work to just narrate (and visualize) until I feel more convinced? Is there something else I should be doing? Sounds good. As you narrate and visualize, you will start to feel as though your tulpa is more real, because you are effectively making it more real for yourself. As time goes on, doubts will come less and less often. If you can visualize well with your eyes open, that may be a good idea. If you feel that seeing is believing, more so.
Lolimancer September 10, 2012 September 10, 2012 I wasn't entirely convinced that what i was doing was ever going to yield results until about two weeks after starting, when i suddenly got a shitload of emotion/headpressure during a session. I'd say it can work even if your belief isn't "real", though you should probably at least be open to the possibility.
Guest applesauce99 September 10, 2012 September 10, 2012 What are your philosophical beliefs when it comes to reality? Just wanted to note that this question would take a tl;dr^n to answer, given how everyone has their own views. It's like asking someone what their religion is, and then asking how the religion works and all the fine details. I think we're all in a simulation btw #matrixfag
