Breloomancer November 2 Share November 2 this is the thread for the newly forming tulpa .info book discussion club this is a single title club, which means we will all be reading the same book at the same pace. propose titles in this thread (despite being a book club, it doesn't have to just be books, other types of media are also allowed), and join the discord for discussion if you are interested in joining discord: https://discord.gg/n9vZyxhFjV I have a tulpa named Miela who I love very much. ringgggg November 2 Share November 2 You have any pitches for a book we could all read? I think I mentioned Lord of the Flies in LOTPW, but maybe you were thinking something else I'm Ringgggg, the intermediary between the indifferent and the intolerable. Breloomancer November 2 Author Share November 2 lord of the flies could be good. my proposal would be "roadside picnic", which is a classic soviet sci fi novel that has had a big impact on the science fiction genre. roadside picnic has been on my reading list for a long time, so i figure this is could be a good opportunity to finally get around to reading it. i don't want our first book to be too long, since we are still figuring things out, and both lord of the flies and roadside picnic are reasonably lengthened i have taken up the role of organizing things, but i don't want to be like a book club dictator or anything like that. i was figuring that after we all proposed a book, we could vote on which one we do. or if we can't decide, maybe we could do a lottery or something I have a tulpa named Miela who I love very much. TB November 2 Share November 2 I propose Junji Ito's "Long Dream". It can probably be read in one sitting. It asks questions about a subject I find important. Creation for creation's sake. More of my drawings Resident Dojikko
LiquidExodus November 2 Share November 2 I propose Michael Moorcock's Elric of Melnibone which follows the titular character Elric from his city...Melnibone. He was born weak and frail and must use potions to give him the strength to move, but is the Sorcerer King of his city. The Melniboneans are wicked and cruel, but Elric, ever strange by his people's standards, was born with the trait of compassion and self-reflection. A bitter feud erupts between him and his cousin Yyrkoon and he seeks to protect his love, Cymoril. Despite his frail constitution and plagued with self-doubt, he seeks righteous vengeance. In terms of its reception, its concepts between Law and Chaos were extremely influential to Fantasy Literature and I believe was also the basis behind the alignment system in the game Dungeons and Dragons. The book is also the first in a series so if people like the first book enough, they're welcome to check out the others too which I highly recommend. ringgggg November 2 Share November 2 (edited) Roadside Picnic's message makes the book seem like its worth a shot thanks to Google. Long Dream might be an interesting look, but I'm personally gravitating more toward the former. Lord of the Flies was more of a placeholder to see if any of y'all wanted to delve into it (I still do want to read it in my free time though, lol) Edited November 2 by ringgggg I'm Ringgggg, the intermediary between the indifferent and the intolerable. Breloomancer November 2 Author Share November 2 so are the four contenders "lord of the flies", "roadside picnic", "long dream", and "elric of melnibone" then? i'm a bit unclear if ring still wants lord of the flies to be one of the candidates, but i'm going to continue counting it unless he makes it clear that he no longer wants it to be in the running so now we have to actually figure out how we are going to decide on one of these. my original idea was that we could do a vote, but, i don't know about y'all, but i would have a hard time picking a single one of these candidates to vote for, since they all seem interesting. if anyone has any preferences for which ones we should or shouldn't do, please make your opinions known! otherwise, the backup plan is to decide which one we will do by lottery (i'll get a bot that can do random number generation in the discord, so everyone can verify the results) I have a tulpa named Miela who I love very much. ringgggg November 2 Share November 2 Yeah, just put those four books in the lottery and see what comes out. I may not have shown as much interest for LOTF as I did initially, but there’s really no telling what the book will truly be like, so my vote still goes towards it. Whatever choice we get I plan on reading. I'm Ringgggg, the intermediary between the indifferent and the intolerable. Breloomancer November 3 Author Share November 3 "long dream" won the lottery in the discord. it is a bit awkward, since that is tb's suggestion, and tb is going to be offline for an indeterminate period of time, and thus, not able to participate. but i'm still going to proceed with it if nobody voices objections long dream is a 35 page manga, so it should not take very long to read. since it is so short, i don't think that we should bother breaking it up into smaller portions; we can just have a discussion after we have all read the whole story what do y'all think is a reasonable period of time for us to read it in? i know that y'all are busy people, so i don't want to pressure you into an unreasonable schedule. i figure even if people are busy, it probably wouldn't be too much to ask to read it over the weekend and then we can discuss it on maybe monday or tuesday, but idk if y'all have super packed weekends, so if you're too busy, we could instead discuss it a week from now. what do y'all think? btw, i hope that nobody thinks that i'm moving things along too quickly. i want to get this group established before things run out of momentum, but i've been trying to give everyone enough time that they can make their voices heard and don't feel that things are moving on without them I have a tulpa named Miela who I love very much.
