FigN01 November 13, 2012 November 13, 2012 However much that went over my head, that was a good read from what I gleaned of it for now. But the idea of nothingness being impossible made me think of something else that's at least partially related. Not to get too off track, but months ago I was leaning toward atheism as a philosophy except I struggled with the unpleasant idea of no afterlife. I couldn't find any reasonable atheist theories on it, with most rightfully dismissing the afterlife as an impossibility since there isn't a soul. Still, I mulled the problem over on my own and ended up clinging to a thought- that if there is truly nothing after death, then how long can that nothingness last? By some stroke of a billion-to-one chance, I do in fact exist now, so given a near infinite time and given the infinitely small probability of there even being a chance at another consciousness, wouldn't it eventually happen even if it took several million millenia? And until then, there being complete nothingness and all, I wouldn't have perceived anything including the monumental length of time it took to become conscious again in whatever form that is. So yeah, my 2 cents- you can't really perceive nothing, so it's a subjective impossibility.

Something has to exist -- and since something cannot exist without subjectivity, which requires conscious observation, consciousness must be a universal force of reality. WTB: Rare Tulpas
intelhunter November 15, 2012 November 15, 2012 reading and discussing shit like this makes me tired, tired and sad. im tired right now. its too fun to never do it, but dayum when you reach the end of the line you have to wait for another line to open up. Ayo grill how you be?
the stickky one November 24, 2012 November 24, 2012 Very interesting read. I've heard of the analogy that the brain is just a transmitter years ago and it blew my mind, but the idea of creation through deduction burned down the rubble. The thought that we are all just radios and that my tulpa is a radio that I built is a very comforting thought. Thanks. The findings of the scientists at CERN comes to mind. They found the Higgs Boson (a particle that can change its electrons to become anything) which means there must also be a Higgs field in which every Higgs Boson particle is modified to create us and everything around us.
Queen Chrysalis November 24, 2012 November 24, 2012 All bark and no bite. Why are none willing to study the properties of this "everything"? http://tulpa.info/forums/Thread-Show-Your-Chrysalove Avatar by ~InsomniacOvrLrd.
Lolimancer November 24, 2012 November 24, 2012 Because then it wouldn't be "everything" but "something", silly.

Because it's metaphysical by today's standards, and hence very little people care about it. Not that I mind, I'll continue to let me beliefs relative to this topic evolve as I grow, so it's possible I won't even care about this in a few years. WTB: Rare Tulpas
JD1215 November 20, 2013 Author November 20, 2013 Updated the main post with an interview from Christof Koch, neuroscientist and chief scientific officer at the Allen Institute for Brain Science. Discusses some of the elements of panpsychism that I am interested in, particularly the theory that consciousness arises from complex integrated systems. Interestingly it also brings up a proposed way to quantify consciousness. WTB: Rare Tulpas
