I'm not really concerned with the hair of course, it was Bre's little joke. You're very kind Miri, I came close this time. I stare at her, she stares back at me, it's close. It's hard with a pencil and paper, I can't just grab something and re-scale it or move it easily, it's pretty much set as soon as you darken the lines. Don't take me for one of those guys that wants to listen to vinyl on a 1970 player, but this style has its challenges that come along with a sense of reward all their own. Like if I was on a desert island, stranded and all I had was a pencil (or charcoal, or pen!) then I could still do this on the rock faces. At least I'd have time to do them dozens of times and get it right. I think if I re-did her a couple dozen more times I could get just a little closer to what I wanted. If there was only time; the will is there. I feel like I was getting into another zone entirely, there is this surreal mix of nervousness and determination, it's exciting.

 

Your art style seems so care free and fluid, it's very you, mine is tension and nerves, damaged in a way.

 

It's a pretty good forcing technique though, she's through the roof happy right now.

That's why it's better to first do a quick sketch very softly, I don't know how to explain it in english, I mean, draw something but without pressing the pencil too hard, so you can later erase it easily if you aren't content with the result. If you want your drawings to look like you drew them with confidence, you can just darken the lineart a few times, it worked for me. Not saying that it's a bad thing, obviously no one wants to ruin a drawing they spent a lot of time doing, it's pretty normal and understandable.

I wouldn't say my style is carefree or fluid, if it looks that way it's because I wasted my entire life re-doing the lineart till it looked decent, not because I'm naturally good at it. But yeah, one way to avoid that ''nervous'' lineart (I guess you're referring to the lineart?) is to darken it a few times.

 

Of course it's a good forcing technique, that feeling when you draw your tulpas is oh geez, it's really good. Akai always get excited like Ashley did when I draw her, Miri isn't that interested since well, I can just take a bunch of photos of myself and I'll have plenty of fanart, it's not that special. Akai on the other hand has no existing fanart besides the pics drawn by me (or gifts from other people but they're like 5 pics) so I like to make her own decent collections of pics. I bet you got the same problem with your tulpas, I mean, unless you've found pre-existing pics that look like them, you're pretty much stuck with your mental image of them. Gosh, I explained myself like a shit.

Wow Bear, shes beautiful! You are also a really good artist to just, I dunno, bring life to pencil and paper. Maybe when I can finally possess I will try my hand at it too. <3
