I thought it said "IRC." I must be hallucinating.

Numbers, numbers. I'll try to pull off my randomness in a nonspam-friendly manner, then.

To answer the OP question, what you're doing is wrong.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed-eye_hallucination

This is what you were experiencing. Wait. Imagine a box. Imagine the box opening. Imagine that there's a carrot inside the box.

Now answer this: Did you see the box? No. Did you visualize the box? Yes.

And even then, you shouldn't be concerned with sight, unless you're doing a wonderland.

I really am sorry for pestering so much, but when I am finally able to visualize her, will it be like seeing her? It's just hard for me to grasp.

From what I understand it would be exactly like seeing her, but imposing her on your vision is one of the last steps in the guides I've read and it isn't going to come in just three hours.

When you are visualizing, you will never be able to see as clear as you percieve the world through your eyes. Despite of this, your visualization of your tulpa will improve greatly over time and come close to how you see dreams.

The imposition will make it able to see your tulpa exactly as though it is a part of reality. A hallucination which is indistinguishable from the environment.

And even then, you shouldn't be concerned with sight, unless you're doing a wonderland.

I don't see that it makes that much difference. Whether or not you use a wonderland, you need to be able to "see" the tulpa in your mind's eye. It doesn't have to be as vivid as a dream, but with practice it becomes more vivid. True, you're visualizing more stuff at once when you use a wonderland, but for me this actually made it easier to see my tulpa. Previously I was visualizing her in a void, which felt really forced. Trying to "zoom out" and see more than one small part made the whole image vanish. Immediately upon switching to a basic beach backdrop, it all felt natural and I could see her entire body at once without too much effort.

For the OP: Don't expect a visual hallucination. It sounds like you're trying to impose Fluttershy on the backs of your eyelids. Think about the way you imagine things with your eyes open, such as the carrot-in-a-box thing tulpatalk mentioned. Close your eyes, relax and try to shift your mental focus away from the backs of your eyelids, and toward that place in your mind where the not-even-there "image" of the box "appears". This is visualizing in your mind's eye. After a while of doing it with your eyes closed, you start to "see" it more vividly. After a bit, you might start to forget that you aren't focusing your mind on your physical eyes, and it will start to seem more like (note: more like, not as clear as) you're actually seeing what you're imagining; getting to a deeper almost-dreamlike state of mind helps too.

Once you can imagine sort of vague fuzzy silhouettes of what you're trying to see, narrate to yourself (in your head) what you want to see, in as much detail as possible, as if you already see it. Imagine touching it as well, and describe what you feel. Touch can help solidify imagined objects. Not like "I'm looking at Fluttershy and petting her". More like "I see your(*) flowing light-pink mane, and as I run my hand through it, it feels fine and silky soft with the occasional minor tangle, which yields easily as I wiggle my finger". Imagine the textures you feel; for hair, you might feel your own hair beforehand as a reference. Think of how what you're imagining reacts to your touch; continuing the previous example, the curl at the end of her mane would uncurl a bit as you pass your fingers over it, pressing ever so slightly on your fingers, then spring back after your hand passes the end of it.

(*) - I use "your" here because you're talking about your tulpa. If you're going to narrate to yourself to help you visualize, you may as well address it toward her.

If you decide to make a wonderland, here's a tip for when you move around in it: Walking in your wonderland does *not* come naturally (at least for me). Assuming it does results in you either floating along, or you end up in 3rd-person perspective watching yourself walking. Imagine your own movement there in as much detail as possible, and narrate that as well until you get used to it. If you're sitting cross-legged on the ground and want to stand up, imagine how you go about it: you put one hand on the ground (feel the texture of the ground on your hand), lean on that hand, put your opposite foot flat on the ground with that knee still bent (feel the ground under your foot if you're barefoot), then use that leg and hand to push yourself up enough to get the other foot flat on the ground, shift to more of a crouch and straighten your legs to stand up. (Try it IRL and note exactly what you do.) The more realistic you make your movements in your wonderland, the more immersive it will seem, and the less you'll slip out of first-person view.

(When I started my tulpa, I was pretty much in the same boat as you. All I could get when I closed my eyes was afterimages and those random glowy spots. I'm about a month and a half in now and I'm still no wizard, but by doing what I describe above, I can see my tulpa pretty clearly, hug her, feel her weight as I carry her around in my wonderland, etc. It still takes a few minutes to fully enter my wonderland, but once there, forms, colors and textures work pretty well.)

My blog :: Time expectations are bad (forcing time targets are good though)

I was talking about right now, during the personality stage. One doesn't need to visualize anything in the personality stage.
