In a similar fashion to how people taking things like adderal to help them in school will eventually need to take it to function at just pre-adderal mental capacity, and how people who drink coffee, tea, or energy drinks more often than not will eventually develop an addiction to and dependancy on the caffiene in it, can tulpamacers/creators/hosts develop a dependancy on physical triggers?

What I mean by physical triggers are things like:

*Fede's tones

*Drugs (ranging from caffeine to krokodil)

*Gestures/hand and face position

*Smells

*Tastes

*Music

I see some threads about caffeine, drugs, whatnot, and even a guide about doing this exact thing under the name Association.

But I fear that there may be a dark side to this, that the only way to have one's tulpa appear as vividly would be to use the same physical trigger every time, and one's experence with one's tulpa will be greatly reduced when not using that trigger. In fact, if this is true, it would very much hinder imposition and narration when not exposed to that trigger/stimulus.

Does this happen/make sense, or are my fears unfounded?

But I fear that there may be a dark side to this.

Like this?

>Think about you tulpa every time you go the toilet.

>Grossed out about being watched while taking a duty every time.

This is as bad as it got so far.

JK. I use tons of minor triggers to do this but it never felt wrong. I guess your fears are pretty much unfounded.

They say great science is built on the shoulders of giants - not here.

At Tulpa.info we do all our science from scratch; no hand holding.

If you really are afraid of it there's a greater possibility for those things to happen.

It's not all bad of course. If you wear a wristband or some accessory of sorts and talk to your tulpa every time you notice it, when you forget to put it on you might notice the weird feeling when you're not wearing it and will remember to talk to your tulpa anyway.

I agree with what Weird0 said there, I don't think you have a lot to worry about here but it's certainly a valid point. I would think that it's a matter of habit-making and habit-breaking in this case (or perhaps, habit-expanding). If you were able to make one major trigger work to the point that you're using it as a crutch for tulpa activities, then you might simply just have to refocus on a new trigger or set of triggers until you get to the point that you have many many triggers/stimuli, and your attention becomes spread out between them, lessening their individual strength or dependency on any singular one (if that makes sense). I don't see anything wrong with using singular triggers either--it may help you maintain a certain amount of control. But even so, if your tulpa is strong-willed enough (force that into them when you can; their independence), then they may just appear on their own anyway, etc. Meanwhile having a trigger is nice in the sense that you can 'call upon them' like a dog whistle or horse horn, etc. and I'm sure they'd be more than happy to comply.

Edit: I also agree with Onicron here! Particularly the fear aspect of it

I think you'll be fine so long as you keep in mind that the trigger isn't needed for you to interact with your tulpa. It's just a crutch to help you along at the start. Thus when you're able to get something using the trigger, you should ease off it a little. Try to get the same without it, now that you have it working and know how it feels.

I think if you associate your tulpa too strongly with the trigger, they may become "bound" to it. In the old /mlp/ threads, there was some brief talk about whether to bind a tulpa to an object or symbol as a safeguard, allowing the tulpa to be summoned or banished as desired.

Triggers I have used:

  • Soothing music, really just used to help me relax and stay forcing longer.
  • Lavender oil, the scent I assigned Lyra. It didn't really associate too strongly with forcing or anything, and was a bit of a pain to set up right, so I stopped after a week or two.
  • String tied around finger. I did this to remember to narrate early on. I eventually got used to it and it didn't remind me that well anymore. But I kept it since it was a symbol I'd associated with her. I eventually lost it and didn't replace it. I worried a little that I might have bound her to it to some extent, so I reminded myself when it was gone that was just a bit of string, a reminder. I didn't have any issues from that.
