Viski May 31, 2013 May 31, 2013 I can't see this happening anytime soon, but what do you think are the consequences if the tulpa phenomenon goes mainstream? One of the effects could be that the increasing amount of passive young men would start creating tulpae and some of them could become more alienated from the social interaction rather than receive assistance in it from their tulpae. Interestingly, this might coincide with what this article mentions, further accelerating the said development: http://www.singularity2050.com/2010/01/the-misandry-bubble.html As single men arrive home from work on Friday evening, they will simply default into their VR immersion, giving a whole new meaning to the concept of 'beta testing'. These sequestered men will be conspicuously absent from the bars and nightclubs that were the former venues of expenditure and frustration, causing many establishments to go out of business. The brains of these men will warp to the extent that they can no longer muster any libido for the majority of real women. This will cause a massive devaluation in the sexual market value of most women
Guest Anonymous May 31, 2013 May 31, 2013 I'm not sure about that alienating either, from what I know there are many tulpas who help their hosts in getting more social. Also even if for some weird reason everybody would learn about tulpas and we would not be labeled as nuts by a good deal of people then most most of them still wouldn't have tulpas. Not everybody has the patience and faith to work on something for months every day without getting the slightest sign of progress.
ror May 31, 2013 May 31, 2013 People who like to isolate themselves will find ways to do so regardless, be it tulpas, video games or any sort of artistic creation. While I've just started working on my own tulpa and can't speak of the benefits from experience, research seems to point at them being a positive force in people, encouraging them to be social, as noobdreamer pointed out. I'm more worried about the media calling us deviants if / when it becomes mainstream. It already is a small fad right now and we do see a lot of people try and give up, or simply having weird ideas about the whole thing. We all know that fox news report is coming someday.
Guest Anonymous May 31, 2013 May 31, 2013 We all know that fox news report is coming someday. I hope not *shudder*. I think that when, if it will ever happen, tulpas will spread, then the main medium for it will be the internet. First of all, news programs wouldn't have any reason to report about us unless we already became big enough, most likely through the internet or some movie like inception was for lucid dreaming (though lucid dreaming was already more known and scientifically proven). Then you also have to think about who is going to become a tulpamamncer. Probably the biggest age group will be teenagers and people in their 20s, who mostly use the internet nowdays, and not 50 year olds. The oldest members I can think of right now are Kevin, but he already had a tulpa for a long time, and Dane, who was one of the people who helped developing the tulpa community in the first place. That's all the people I know that are older than 30. By the way, ther already is a movie called "tulpa": [video=youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvp0xhCPe8s I'm sure it attracted a lot of people to the idea. /sarcasm
Guest mule May 31, 2013 May 31, 2013 I can be an asshole to an even larger community! Ploob becomes rich. More one day tulps and a lot of ridiculous shit being "discovered." More and more roleplayers.

The consequences of tulpae becoming mainstream would be mostly found in religious circles. Mostly Christians and Muslims and the Westboro Baptist Church... would rally and protest, screaming something along the lines of "DEEEMOONS!!! DEEEEEEEEEMOONSSSSsss!!!" "DUDE! That's wrong! You don't do that! That's like giving a kid a knife and telling him that it's a neck massager!" Shameless self promotion!
DJ Deadlock May 31, 2013 May 31, 2013 Well let's think about it. The media doesn't accept /gays/ so why would they accept tulpae? Having a tulpa would be considered a negative thing and saying you have one would be the equivalent to coming out of the closet. Call me Gabi. Tulpamancer since February 16th, 2013. reddeadrebel on the IRC. Call me 16-Volte. I'm a cowboy, on a steel horse I ride! Message me on tumblr!

This thread reminds me of gay people coming out of the closet for some reason. In my thread asking if people told their parents about their tulpa. Pretty spot on.
