The consequences of tulpa becoming mainstream is just like any idea that becomes acknowledged by a few set of people, and then eventually gets blasted into the media. There's always going to be the stages where people start scaling their own crazy beliefs with this belief that they'll think will be crazy as well. It's always been like that with an idea that seems so far-fetched because those same people have ingrained in their minds of what's a "stable and normal" life. Before the concept because a "Real," as in simply being part of a global awareness, people are going to set up their defenses as the concept of tulpa potentially refuting everything they believed it.

And it's funny it's easy to treat this as something that suddenly came up out of nowhere, even though we know where the foundations started. I don't think there's going to be armies or riots set up, or burning of some religious book or whatever worst scenario we can come up with. People will start grabbing whatever associations they seem is fitting enough to conceptualize the meaning behind tulpa. And we all know those words:

- Schizophrenia

- DID/MPD

- Mental dissonance

- Anything that can be pulled out of people's heads

There's going to be a defense system set up for a while, and it's a matter of people being able to make their own reasons of why they want to have a tulpa in the first place. And as for the social alienation, I honestly don't see it making any significant augmentation. We're already in a society that's technically alienated from society, even if they have many friends. What I mean is that people most likely have "fodder friends" to temporarily fill the gap of insecurities they have in feeling content with their lives. Just look "social medias" like Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, I could go on into a tangent of how those "social" conduits are the epitome of social alienation (lacking having an actual meeting with a person face to face vs. online interaction), but I rather not.

Just like with things that become viral and inevitably "memes," how people interpret them and spread them to their friends, families, and just people that are their fans or group members for whatever is going to go through the stages of awareness. There's going to be a social cluster fuck (I apologize for the "f" word, but that's really what it ends up being) of emotions, insecurities, mindsets, etc. that gets added into the cauldron of the totality of everyone's opinions on the idea that's "new" to them. And when it becomes a meme (and I don't mean memes as in Advice animals you see on Reddit obviously):

meme

/mēm/

Noun

An element of a culture or behavior that may be passed from one individual to another by non-genetic means, esp. imitation.

It might take constant blasting for it to really start irritating or making people acknowledge it a bit more. Things like Religion, Spirituality, and every single type of belief system will eventually have their own input on the matter of Tulpa. There might be a recycling of insecurities that turns into hatred and resentment towards those who do want to make a tulpa, but that doesn't really change much of what this world really is. It's just going to be added on to that invisible landfill of thoughts from others. And although it's scary, it's even a greater time to get people who've been wanting to express their beliefs to formulate how to do so. I honestly believe it's about finding the right words and having the right movement of your tongue of persuasion that makes people think twice before slamming down biased associations to define what Tulpa is.

Movements definitely can happen, and with the Internet, it can be easier, but there's always risks, there's always some consequence that becomes manifest simply because some people are either intolerant from seeing things differently and/or having a misunderstanding with the aspects behind Tulpa. People can choose to make movements and groups to inform others that it's not as crazy as any belief system people use for a sense of morality, closure, and sense of self. And then if it even encroaches the realms of Science, the concept itself hopefully will ease into the peer-review, constant repetition of experiments, and other aspects that we call the Scientific Method. And that will go through its own filtering of what seems impractical vs. something that can be consistent towards a person's perception of reality. And just saying Science alone is too vague. It can hit things like Sociology, Psychology, Neuroscience, etc., and it has a potential of creating the next set "Freuds" or "Jungs" that will attempt to make a theory. Then they'll have to go through seeing the framework behind the theories, and how people make their own unique interpretations of the concept of Tulpa.

It may not even climb over the fortress that Science is when it comes to gradually and modifying what reality is. It might be considered, but it depends on which individuals are willing to risk their reputation in analyzing the concept.

There's just so many things to talk about if Tulpa becomes mainstream to the point where it's occasionally talked about in the News. However, with the "standards" with the media, this might just end up in those Magazines you see in the retail and grocery stores of recent UFO sightings. Maybe it might be something more than that, no one really knows, but it just depends on getting it to become a universal awareness. And when people eventually find their own meanings and creating their own foundations, that is when things might die down a bit, but it doesn't mean it'll be solved and accepted. If things like Religion, Spirituality, and Politics are a constant thorn on people's feet, Tulpa is just going to latch onto the Blanket of thoughts of this world.

Who knows? *shrugs*

It's Ploob, frand.

Linkzelda hit on an interesting point regarding research. I have been trying to get the ball rolling on psychological research on tulpae, but there are issues with doing groundbreaking research such as this (namely that there isn't any research to go off of). They say that science is built on the shoulders of giants. But I have to do all my science from scratch, no hand-holding.

Just a couple of weeks ago, one of the universities here received a 2,2 million funding for a 4-year research on sentience and the phenomena that some people think are supernatural. The tulpae would fit nicely there.

Turku, it's the second largest university in the country I think.

I sent them email. Not much else can be done, unless if you write a coherent tulpa-book and shove it in their faces.

Can you post the email? I'm curious.

"Concerning your research, there happens to be a bunch of nutjobs over at tulpa.info who have undertaken the task of self-inducing a schizophrenia in order to make their imaginary cartoon pony friends feel real.

On a second thought, please stay away from them at all costs. It's contagious."

You see, reverse psychology is the fastest way to persuade those who might be sceptical.

not really
