I'd rather have more SCIENCE done with tulpas before going mainstream. The last thing the community needs are more roleplayers/fennicgirls/jimmys.

Bleh, the mainstream. I can see it now...

Tonight on Fox News: Are Disturbing 'Tulpa' Cults Giving Your Child Schizophrenia?!

Bacn can do without.

It's Fox News, so it can usually be assumed that whatever the say is a lie. Even when they tell the truth, that truth becomes a lie. Because that's Fox News.

Sure, we're bound to get some negative press when/if this goes mainstream, but that's true about anything. Since the Bronies are so prevalent in this community, I'll use them as an example. They've gotten tons of bad press, as it was to be expected, but despite that they've grown, a lot. We can't let our fears of negative reactions consume us. There are plenty of people who would love the idea, but just don't know about it because they've never been exposed to it. We should want to change that, to bring tulpae to those that really want them, despite the challenges we'll face in doing so.

I think going mainstream would be a terrible thing for tulpas. As it stands it's already an easy target for ridicule, and further increasing the availability would probably lead to more people acting very immature with it and lead to more bad press. The points about it ending up in the news is probably not far off from what would occur, given that most religious folks (especially here in the US, moreso in the more conservative areas of the country) would view it as some kind of devil-worship, or at least something like demon-posession. I'd prefer it stay basically where it is now, and maybe get more scientific involvement. Perhaps a few psychologists or neuroscientists in the community would help, or at least getting them to take a look and give their take.

We as host just have to show gratitude in the smaller things with our tulpa(e).

Are we trying to be (collectively, as a forum/website) the insightful old master who lives on top of a freaking mountain so "only the worthy" come by, or are we trying to be the nutty guy standing on the street corner screaming, "TULPAS! THEY'RE LIKE FRIENDS FOR YOUR BRAIN!"

That's a really over-polarized way to put it, but that's sort of how I see it.

@ Derp's post: People calling it new-age bullshit, didn't read, people going tl;dr and assuming tulpae are fake even after visiting the site, didn't read, some actually meaningful discussion on the difference between tulpae and DID. So basically you've shown me nothing I wasn't already expecting by going mainstream.

Neat. Looks like you've got good expectations or the little exemplar I gave was of poor findings - likely the latter, but I don't care terribly much at this point.

The tl;dr's you missed consisted of misinformed metaphysicists rushing in to say tulpas will put you in an asylum and the other was a depiction of just how easy it is to poke fun at tulpas. I found it difficult to find any discussion about tulpas with a positive outlook - the closest was the DID discussion. Perhaps the point I was striving for was that going mainstream would be an uphill battle - something you realized a while back - but I don't quite know at this point, as it's been a few days since I've slept.

Every person who starts one of these threads is basically the latter, but I'll take the former. This place is on the first page of the google search result for "tulpa", and it's mentioned elsewhere, so anyone who actually wants stuff will find their way here. In the mean time there is absolutely no reason for anything to 'go' anywhere.

Fancyboy had something to say on this.

"I would personally like to see tulpas go nowhere. Honestly, the world would be batshit insane if we had more people like us."
